Thanks for the name suggestions. We rule out anything biblical as OH is a staunch aetheist. I'm still liking Ned, but OH said, "Okeley dokeley neighbour-ooney!" A la New Flanders from the Simpsons. Think I could live with that though.

:rotfl: Even though this is funny, i do actually think ned is a cute name! :o

Is Alex left legged? or maybe he subconsciously puts the left one first to save his kicking leg? would i be a cruel mummy if I sent him to school with patches on his knees??
It's DS1 actually with the holes, and no he's not left-anything AFAIK

I have some of those iron-on patch things for his trousers that go on the reverse side of the fabric, but they only give a few extra weeks of wear and then we're back to square one.

on the subject of Ned what is it short for? is it Edward? that's our 2nd choice name if bump is a boy :) our first choice is Edgar, my family all hate it but I LOVE it.

I as a general rule like traditional/normal/biblical/English names and was really shocked when I discovered that in 2007 (the yr my Chris was born) Christopher was number 90 in the official most popular list.
I was worried he'd be one of three in his class but possibly he won't be, I haven't met another Chris the same age as him yet and we've been to lots of groups and classes in the last 2yrs!!
    All three of our girls names are in the 2007 top 100 but I haven't heard any of them at baby clinic, classes etc so I'm not too worried about it. they are;
    Lily-Rose
    Layla-Rose
    Isabella possibly middle name Eden
I've always thought Ned was short for Edward but I could be wrong.

Unless the name is within the top few then you're unlikely to find loads of people with the same name. There was somewhere I looked at names where they had the actual figures as well as positions and the numbers drop right down fairly quickly. Girls names drop more smoothly whereas with boys it seems to be a few names which are *very* popular and then it drops right down.

My parents tried to pick names which were known but not too popular at the time but when I did my PGCE there managed to be three of us called Susan in a class of 50 which was sometimes confusing as people didn't expect there to be more than one.

Call the koala brothers, help is on it way... I love them!
yes one is called Ned ;)
I think its cute but would personally prefer to use the 'proper' name and then shorten it.
I kno I say Chris on here but its just to save typing, the shortest he gets at home is Christoph - if you say "what's your name?" he replies "Myyyy name Chrrrr-istoph"

Susan they have a list like that on bounty the most popular name was given to less than 1.5% of all babies and once you get to about 10th its 0.5% or something http://www.bounty.com/babynames/topnamesbyper.asp?btyCurrentPage=1

My rule (no particular reason) was outside of the top 30 when we named Imogen.

I think Ned is traditionally short for Edward, but don't think OH likes the long version so may just go for Ned. Got 4 months yet anyway!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep them coming...

We only decided on Henry as OH wanted middle name of Ferguson and that fitted the best..dont see Henry in top list more often its Harry instead (which I always thought was a shortened version of Henry anyway)

Dont think we would shorten it though

I've never understood that as it's still the same length (like Jack for John).
