I'm now the very proud Mummy of Jamie Jack born at 00:22am on Sunday 28 December 2008 weighing a 'whopping' 10lb 12.5oz!. After being induced last Saturday morning, I gave birth with gas & air - a total contrast to Poppy's entrance into the world!

Ladies, some advice if you will..
Got an email today from boots parenting about "my 23mth old" (bit late seeing as he's 24mths a week 2mo but hey ho) it said Chris should now know his name and say things like "Chris do it" but he doesn't seem to understand the concept of him having a name, I wouldn't normally worry about what he "should" be doing but this is the first time he doesn't even seem close to reaching the goal.
He knows other people's names but does occasionally call Grandma, Mum when I've been calling her Mum in conversation and Daddy sometimes gets called Matt for same reason. He answers to Christopher / Christoph when I call him but not sure if that means anythinghe also points to himself on photo's and says "its you" copying what we say to him.

I wouldn't be worried about that Sami Bee. Isabel is 26 months and she is aware of her name and she is understanding that she has her own identity and that certain things belong to her but it hasn't been for any great length of time that she's been doing that. It suddenly clicks into place and away they go.
I like the Babycentre milestones chart here, have always found it pretty accurate. Talking about self is considered an advanced skill on that website at 23 months that only a few children can do. I personally think that is a more appropriate guideline from my own experience and gauging how my own children have compared with their peers.0 -
Awwww, he is gorgeous SB! Well done you!! xx:j0

DS1 always called his best friend or 'Nana' when he started using names. That was nothing LIKE his best friend's name, but I wondered after a while if it was his way of saying his own name, which although it isn't 'Nana' does have two A's in it.
So, DS1 knew who Mummy and Daddy were, and he knew that he was not a Mummy or Daddy but a small person, and his friend was also a small person, so he just transferred what he thought small people were called to his friend?
However I'm not sure that he EVER used his name like that. It was always "My do it" (or, memorably, "My Am a Rabbit" as a book title instead of "I am a Rabbit."Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Imogen says her name (she's just gone 2 on Boxing Day) and has done for some time, but doesn't actually say "Imogen wants it" she says "my do it" like Sue's boys.
We taught her to say it by saying "what's my name?" (mummy) "What's his name?" (Daddy) "What's your name?". It was fun for a while!
She will now say her name and then, if you ask what her full name is, will give you her Sunday name including middle name and surname! But then language has always been her thing. She's less good on the physical stuff. They all have their own strengths don't they? HTH?
Will get round to PM-ing you about the Facebook group. Just not tonight as my programme's just started!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
I noticed the name thing when I saw my niece (16 months). They always say "look there's you" in pictures/reflections, ask "can you do it?" when they are playing and that kind of thing, so she thinks her name is you.
However I've always said "look there's Charlotte", "can Charlotte do that?" and so on, so she knows her name is Charlotte (or Sharli as she can't say Charlotte!)Here I go again on my own....0
