well greetings from the house of [STRIKE]sickness[/STRIKE] getting better.

i started crashing on xmas eve and felt i was up 3/4 of the night cos ds1 kept getting up and was worried and confused (temp related). eventually got up at 4:50 as I was fed up with not being able to sleep and it took us nearly two hours to gatwick. a police van flashed his lights at me on motorway so i changed lane and then he carried on but my driving was sometimes very slow as i was so tired and getting dressed / stripped off every so often cos my temp was all over the place. dh's flight was an hour late so we just sat down and waited, people kindly vacated the nearby chairs so goodness knows what kind of a state we were in. samantha just sat on my lap sucking her thumb. dh arrived, and he drove home. stopped off at sil for lunch (and for dh to give her update etc on fil) and then came home and since then i have been sleeping about 20/24 a day. don't even know what day of the week it is anymore, but at least i am up  (well had to be, as dh has gone to work) and my head no longer feels like it needs to come off  .

oz was sleeping loads all last week when he wasnt well and i worried about it as well because its not like him to sleep at all let alone every couple of hours! but it seems to be that he just needed to shut himself down so he could fight off the flu, he's still not 100% but it appears that week of sleep has powered him up cos now he's into everything, trying to crawl, trying to fling himself out of whatever i put him in rolling every shape and direction, my head is away! but at same time good to see him back to "normal", whatever that is!

Advice please. We're having problems with Imogen sleeping over night. She's been a bit disturbed since the builders started but slept really well at my mum's while she was away. Now they've finished and she's in her new room. She's been home for a week today.

Problem is two-fold: she wakes in the night asking for me or OH and won't settle until we go to her. She's straight back to sleep after she hears our voice. She has also got in the habit of needing a poo around 8-8.30pm. This means she goes to bed around 7.30pm then gets up and demands to go to the toilet. Her system seems to have set itself and I'm not sure what else to do. She's done perfectly with her toilet training and is now fully clean and dry, so I don't want to say no when she asks to go in the evening, even though she should be in bed.

Tonight we've tried telling her she'll get a sticker for night she stays in bed and doesn't ask for mummy or daddy, then a present after three consecutive nights.

We also do the logical thing of giving her plenty of time on the toilet at bathtime so she gets the opportunity to 'go' but can't think what else to do.

    Help!

  • Hi Lu,

Maybe your DD is feeling a bit insecure as she's been at grandma's for a week then has a brand new room to sleep in.

I need to join the bad mummy club. We had a lamp between the bed and DD's cot, we had started to leave it on low (it's got 3 settings on it) as DD started not liking going to sleep in the dark.

Last night after a very exciting chocolate/sugar filled afternoon and evening with family she was slightly hyper DH put her bed she was chatting and singing to herself then there was a loud howl both of us shot upstairs it took a few minutes but we realised what she'd done - touched the bulb by which time a blister had formed on her finger, we ran it under cold water, discovered it's not easy to hold a toddler over a sink and keep her hand under the water, so we filled a bowl with water took her downstairs where she sat dabbling in the water for about half an hour.

There was more howling when we took the bowl away as it hurt again so I gave her a does of calprofen, we also put a plaster on it once she'd calmed down as she was playing with it and I don't want her to burst it.

We didn't get to bed until midnight so I've had a very grumpy toddler today who was in bed at 6.30pm.

P.S. the offending light has now been moved.

MDW: i'm afraid to say that if it still hurt after removing from cold that it possibly was still burning, although with toddlers you never know what type of pain it is  If she's missing the light we have the rechargeable ghost lights from ikea they don't get hot and have a nice little glow to them ;)

Would a glow plug be better than a light? One of my boys didn't like the dark so I used to leave a glow plug on in his bedroom and it gave off just enough light to keep him happy but they don't get hot like bulbs do.

There's a socket next to our bathroom door, so I had one on the landing too so he could find the loo easily in the night!
Here I go again on my own....
  • Thanks Sami-Bee and Beccles.

DD is still in our room so it was just convenient to have a bedside lamp, but she will be moving in the New Year once her room is cleared of junk and decorated as she has started to sleep through.

We're going to the sales today so I will see what I can find nightlight wise.

Her finger is on the mend, she has pulled the plaster off and is leaving it alone so I will let the air get to it now.

    Happy New Year everyone

Quiet-ish night here. Husband was working (DJ), so I stayed in with the bairns. Charlotte went to bed at normal time and we all put our jarmies on and watched films. We watched Einstein and Eddington, which was a bit over James head but Joshua and me enjoyed it. Then we watched Mamma Mia which was brilliant. James and me sang and danced to all the songs while Joshua pretended to play on his DS instead of watching it and called us sad. Then we put cheesy party tunes on and danced around before putting the Big Ben countdown on and watching the fireworks with a glass of Prosecco. Enjoyed it

That sounds like a really nice night Becles :-)

A very merry New Year to you all from Casa Fritha. We saw in 2009 in perfect style (for us): fast asleep in bed! Celia was even in her big cot for the first time! She slept five and a half hours in one go! (I did not however, I kept having to pop in and check on her!). Even the fireworks didn't wake her up! I couldn't think of a better way to ring in the New Year than by sleeping personally! :rotfl:

I hope everyone else had a good one too :-)
