Just received a "personal" invitation in the post for this new Morgan Stanley Platinum Mastercard paying 2% CASHBACK upto 1st May 2005 and 1% thereafter upto a spending of £2000. After that the cashback drops to 0.5%.

Seems like a good deal on the face of it - have not had a good cashback credit card for a little while now.

Has anyone else seen this new offer?

Bad news for Nationwide credit card holders in today's Sunday Times.

I got the Nationwide card for travelling I have also been using it for the cashback.

However as of 1st March the cashback will drop from 0.5% to 0.25% and the introductory rate will drop from 1% to 0.5%, plus the APR is going up 1%.

Gradually all the cashback cards are drying up.     :(

I hadn't seen this -- don't see The Sunday Times -- and still haven't. Presumably N'wide will be writing to all cardholders in due course.

My capital one circle card gives 1% cashback, just got a nice christmas present £183 cashback :)

Though does not indicate on statements amount of cashback earned. They used to but stopped reporting the amoutn of cashback earned around May or June 2004.

Though the amount recieved is correct as Ive done the sums and £183 is about 1% of the prev 12 month statements.

So a nice little christmass present indeedee.

My CapitalOne Circle card statements are still [so far] showing each month what the amount of earned cashback is for that month. Because i always check that it's still 1% -- I'm one of the lucky ones [again - so far!]

I finally phoned up to cancel my Capital One card today, after I'd BT'd the cashback.
After I explained I was interested in 0% BTs the guy I spoke to put me on hold for a couple of minutes while he spoke to the retention department. He came back and explained that there were no deals available to me, and said that he had been told that there were unlikely to be any in the future on that card, as it was a rebate card. So I asked to close it, and he advised me to leave it 7 days before applying for a new Capital One card, to ensure that I wasn't still showing as an existing customer.
  • Hi All

I'm just getting into rationalising my credit cards and have applied for 3 SBT cards as per the MSE article and was just thinking about changing my "had it forever" Barclaycard into something that pays cash not "pointless points".

As luck may have had it an offer from AE drop through my door. It is for a platinum AE card with the stepped cash returns but offers "Double MoneyBack" for the first 3 months. Breaks are as normal at 0.5% < 3000, 1.0% 3001 to 7500 and 2.0% > 7501.

For those on here that like to know these things (I have lurked awhile) the offer is titled "The Platinum Credit Card with Double MoneyBack". Product code: S, Marketing code AP96, Credit Plan 10003. The form also has UKDM 040202 stamped at the bottom.

The terms are not clear whether the double cashback will only take into account spend so far for first 3 months which may only amount to 2 x 0.5% =1.0% or whether it will be based on the amount spent in the first 3 months but with the double the overal percentage return for the year. I think the former is more likely (the latter would obviously be better).

My question to all you knowledgable offer spotters is: Are there any better deals around or should I just happily take this one. I pay my balance in full monthly and currently put about £18,000 per year through my Barclaycard (which this card would replace)?

    Thanks in advance.

Had my statement through this morning with a leaflet in telling me of this. Will give me something to do later today as me thinks it's time to search for a better deal from another card provider.

Same here. I took out the NW Card after Egg all but scrapped their cashback rate a while back.
Time to choose a new one - one that'll go the distance!

  • I was refused a card by Morgan Stanley as I don't earn enough. However I want a cash back card (as I don't have any debts) and I want purchase protection too which my Barclaycard doesn't do anymore - any thoughts?
