  • I've posted elsewhere that Aldi Jaffa cakes are so good, they should be banned!!! Small, not too much biscuit, more chocolate and orange filling than the brand name, and Sainsbursys own. I just can't stop eating them, even using jam doughnuts and Battenburg as methadone, so to speak, hasn't worked.
    Be warned!
(Really I am just trying to put people off, so there will be enough for me.)

Why are all you Aldi shoppers insulted by others not shopping there??

No-one is having a go at you for not shopping at Sainsburys.

I find this with a lot of things, I think Sainsbury's cherry bakewells are much nicer than Mr Kiplings and I also prefer own brand jaffa cakes to Mcvities.

Aldi & Lidl have never floated my boat.

I'm actually surprised they are referred to above as premium products for standard cost, I always thought they were full of cheap stuff.

I do get what Zoe is saying about meat products, I'm the same. I like chicken breasts, steaks, lamb chops, nice joints, VLF mince, premium sausages etc. I like meat that hasn't been messed about with.

When I was really struggling a few years back I tried Aldi, I bought some chicken pies, I'm not sure what was in them but it certainly wasn't 'good quality' chicken breast.

I must admit, I'm intriged as to where you can buy cheap chicken pies that contain 'good quality' chicken breast. Have you actually found them elsewhere?

Personally, I wouldn't waste breast meat in a pie.

I'm in Germany, and Aldi and Lidl are just supermarkets here, not astonishing cheap discount bonanza shops.

The quality is pretty much what you'd get in any other supermarket (the V-Markt closer to me is much bigger, but often poorer quality and more expensive), and the reason they seem so cheap in the UK is because everything's more expensive there anyway. The products are different to the UK products because tastes in the target market - ie continental Europe - are different. If you don't like the stuff then shop elsewhere - maybe I'm acclimatised but it really isn't that bad. I'm eating potatoes and fish from Aldi now, and they're pretty good (although I did cook them myself, which might be why).

Ok, I'll rephrase it, it certainly wasn't 'good quality', which is what the Aldi shoppers are insisting Aldi products are. I'm not even sure if it was chicken, it was that bad!

Personally, if I make a pie, for example steak pie, I go through all the meat removing any fat, and if I made a chicken pie I would use chicken breast.

    That doesn't match my experience.
