I must say that I've never found Aldi expensive or disorganised. A lot of Aldi's lines are premium goods at normal prices. Yes some things are a bit pricey but if you went to another supermarket they would be double or triple the price for the quality. I think some people expect it to be dirt cheap (which it used to be) but they have changed a lot over the last few years and are giving quality and value. As for the disorganised bit, well mine anyway (and the others I have been to) are always tidy and in order.

I think Aldi is very organised, where i am anyway. Prices have gone up slightly, but so has others. Their food is of good quality. I shop both there & Tesco each week.

I found this with Lidl, for example, I remember thinking their jaffa cakes were more expensive and were mishapes! The only good thing about Lidl is their fireworks!

Aldi I have been to once and thought it was utter crap. Apart from some little chocolate things I bought, that's probably all I'd eat from there.

My MIL is a massive Aldi fan, especially the seafood pizza, OH had some round there once and it smelled on his breath for a week, made me sick!

We also all went for tea once and I was spooning some lasagne onto my plate and said 'oh this looks a different colour' (it was pinky), the reply was 'oh it's pork lasagne from Aldi', well it was revolting, I had to pretend to eat it.

  • The products at Aldi are generally about the same prices as the supermarket 'normal' range, but much better quality. If you were expecting everything to be priced as 'value' no wonder you're disapponted... value lines are a loss leader for supermarkets, I doubt any store could sell EVERYTHING at those prices and keep running for more than a week!

Tinned tomatoes are about 20-25p (while since I went), a few pence more than the 'value' ones but MUCH nicer.

Pesto @ 99p a jar... better than any sold in asda

Yoghurts, choc mousse, fromage frais are about 50p for a 4 pack (depending what you get) and are MUCH nicer than the value equivalent (ie they don't taste of sweetners and artificial flavours)

Bearing in mind i think that it being a european shop some of the foods are recipes from different countries (ie readymeals etc)... just because its not to your taste doesn't mean its revolting.

I agree Lightisfading- Aldi's food is not really bargain basement stuff - its on a par with supermarket normal and brand food rather than value ranges, but for less than 'normal' supermarket prices.
I'd rather eat a tin of Aldi baked beans than a tin of Tesco value ones anyday :rotfl:

Also some of the food is def European so might be slightly different to what you'd expect in a British supermarket. I love Aldi:j

I think Aldi is shop where you can't get all your weeks shopping, but its good for certain things.

Deli meat, such as salami is about a third of what you pay in any supermarket and they do nice continental cheeses as well.

I'm on a mission the next couple of months to try and value shop more as my Tesco shop came to £160 yesterday  for the week!
    £2021 in 2021... £253.86/£2021

It's revolting for me, not just because it's from Aldi but because it's pork lasagne.

It isn't an attack on Aldi shoppers, it's just my opinion, I also wouldn't eat a value/basics/economy lasagne either.

When I was really struggling a few years back I tried Aldi, I bought some chicken pies, I'm not sure what was in them but it certainly wasn't 'good quality' chicken breast.

I'm sure Aldi is great for some stuff, I personally don't like it and you can't get everything there can you? or is that Lidl? I wouldn't bother going to different shops to get my weekly shopping.

Did you buy a tele while you were there?

Everything has gone up so much, I noticed a massive increase in the price of cooking oil, soap powder has gone up quite a bit, I suppose everything has.

I shopped at Sainsburys until recently when i switched to Tesco but now I've noticed Sainsburys are putting decent offers on so might go back there this week and see what works out best.

    .

Personally being vegetarian I wouldn't eat meat lasagne full stop... I wouldn't swear myself off a shop because of that one product they sell though. Different things for different people :)

I haven't, I was telling the story of the meal at MIL's house, the thought of pork lasagne revolts me wherever it's from, I also wouldn't eat turkey mince.

The seafood pizza revolts me too. As do the 'chicken' pies.

I don't particularly like any lasagne, I'm quite fussy when it comes to meat, I like things like chicken breasts, steak etc and love to pick at a joint of any meat when it comes out the oven as I can see what I'm eating, I don't like it when things are 'hidden'.

I wouldn't bother shopping at Aldi as they don't have everything I need there, I wouldn't waste time going to different shops when I can get everything I need in one shop.

I would, however, try Aldi's face cream, I haven't got round to it yet, must go soon though before I start to get wrinkles!
