and the fruit and veg offers they have for 39p etc are worth visiting for alone

Sadly the offers this month seem to have gone up to 69p.

  • back to the matter in hand - the Aldi frozen crispy duck kit for around £3.99 is lovely! A huge bit of boneless duck with lots of pancakes and sauce!

My mum and dad also get all their deli meat for their lunches at work from Aldi and find the meat excellent quality and good value. My dad loves the Titan bars too (like Mars Bars).

I am lucky enough to have a Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl all on the same car route, so I shop in all of them, to get the best deals from each. I'll do owt for a bargain me!! :rotfl:

I went to Lidl for the fireworks again last night, theirs are far better than Sainsburys or Tescos and cheaper, I hate it when you spend £20 or £30 or more on fireworks expecting them to be exciting and all they do is go 'pfft' and the neighbours have good ones and the kids ask 'why didn't we get good ones like next doors', actually next door always get what they think are super duper display ones and they're always rubbish so they do idiotic things like tape 2 rockets together.

We go to a display anyway but like to get a couple of our own, we got 2 packets of rockets in different sizes and a big cake one for £20, sounds a lot but I know they're pretty good.

I also spotted some paper shade string lights for £5.99 which will make a nice present for someone.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D
  • I've just done a little experiment:

I have today bought Tesco Value butter for 69p and Aldi's cheapest butter for 59p. The Tesco stuff is vile (there's a nasty cheap twang to it) whereas I would be perfectly happy to put Aldi's butter on my crumpets.

I have also compared mozzarella - Tesco's value range is 47p and RANK. Aldi's is 49p and far superior.

Most of the stuff in Aldi is great quality and is cheaper or about the same as Tesco's value range which, it has to be said, is truly awful.

I wouldn''t trust the Discount Brands thing, either. It's just the Value range repackaged, probably.

Why support the Tesco monster anyway?

I know where I'm shopping when I'm skint!

    I agree.

To be fair, I've only tried a few Discount Brand items but the quality has been pretty good and comparable to Aldi products.

Thanks, Stompa. I did buy a couple of things from the Discount Brands range also so will give them a go.

I'm not a newbie, by the way. I've been "SavingGrace" for yonks but for some reason I got booted off. Maybe cos I haven't been on for a year or so????????????????

I LOVE ALDI!!! :D I've been shopping there each week for the last 3 years
I do my weekly shopping in Aldi and then pop over to either Asda or Tesco for other bits and pieces. We have 2 children and eat healthy food, cooked from scratch (95% of the time) and my monthly food bill is under £250.:D
My husband and I are both teachers (44 years combined at the chalk face) and I love bargains and I'm not bothered if they come from the 99p shop, Aldi, Netto or Tesco! :rotfl:
I'm very careful with our income and would rather shop in Aldi or buy special offers and then use the saved money for other things like holidays to the USA or Australia. ;)

  • Went for a wander around ALDI with hubby yesterday. (Refurbished store about 6 months ago) as we keep trying and never like it.

    I hate the place!

The biscuits/crisps ect are very poor quality, the cleaning/ washing stuff is cheapo, the fruit and veg we do not even look at because the last lot was mouldy the next day, bread has bI just wanted to get back out again (via the groups full of big/old people in anoraks that seem to use the place as a y gossip shop.

NEVER AGAIN. and yes it does smell awful.

The Aldi where I go is nothing like you describe.
Is tidy, quiet, all sort of people there
    The veg good quality-price. (salad tomatoes, 6 , 39p)
I don't like the bread (loaf) I prefer other, but the Deli is superb, the dairy excellent., the chocolats delicious. I didn;t try the biscuit yet.
