phew im glad that i dont need to rush around cleaning
. I do like my house to be clean and tidy but with 3 kids (o/h included) its lived in. Like i said before our garden is dog proof (apart from the gate) which o/h has been saying he will fix for ages now. Its also big enough for plenty of running around. Glad that the wipes work i might invest in some when we get one.

"lived in" would be good0

Fudge is lovely isnt he, he might be a bit too big for us though, Milly seems the perfect size. Im really hoping that the people who visited her last week havent snapped her up, i really want to go and see her. If she has im sure that one will come along, im a great believer in fate.
How did you get on, do they still have Milly??0 -
Hi Pamela
Ive just rung up the lady who has Milly and whats happening is that on Saturday at Saltburn they have a bandstand day?. What that means is between 10-12 all the dogs that need re-homing round the Saltburn area go to the bandstand and you get chance to look at all the dogs. Milly will be there but the people who had a look at milly last week have rung her back and told her that they are interested. She said that doesnt mean we cant have a look at milly and it doesnt mean that the other people will necessary get milly if we both want her. What she said that they consider both homes and would re home her with the one that they think would be suitable for her. The thing is the other peole are retired so they would be at home all day with her!!. also it would mean taking the kids on saturday and maybe getting my youngest sons hopes up for a dog (he doesnt know that we are thinking about getting a dog yet). So we really dont know what to do????
. Do we go and have alook at all the dogs getting my sons hopes up or do we not go and just carry on looking?

hmmm, well, the other people being at home all day may be a big brownie point to them - but then on the other hand it may be likely that she would get more exercise and fun with you and your kids.. I suppose it depends on the dogs personality - mine would probably rather have lots of walks and a few hours alone in the day than lots of company but not much exercise...
Having said that my mum is retired and walks the legs of her dog!
I think it would be sensible to explain to your son that getting a dog is a big responsibility, and that you would like to go along to this day out, to support the local rescue and to get to know more about having a dog, rather than to specifically let him know you are hoping for Milly, as it does sound like it may go either way... you could say that you want to look at Milly to see if she is they 'type' of dog that would be suitable, but let him know that someone else is interested, and they may be a better home for her.
At 12 it is not too much to learn that owning a dog is a big responsibility and that the dogs welfare should come first, and as a future dog owner it is all good experience! After all a dog is a responsibility for the next 10-15 years, not an impulse buy, and it is important to research and think carefully first - you have researched a lot and I think you can involve your son now but talk to him about the need to be patient and careful in making your decision!
It may also be worth going just to get to know the staff and to make yourself known to them - if Milly goes but another suitable dog comes in - then you may be the femily they think of first! Good luck :-)0 -
From my experience, many a person will say they are "interested" but few follow it through.0

when my mum went to look at Cleo another person had already registered interest, but my mum got her:T
We think this is partially cos my mum went up to see her and walk her a couple of times before she was able to leave (seven days as she was a stray) and partially cos she was really keen and happy to take the dog on long rambling walks as she walks anyway0 -
I would like to know if anyone can help me find a breeder of the above dogs, My son has always wanted a dog but as i have alergies to dogs have never considered it, but having reserched these particular dogs they seem to be very popular for people with alergies. I live in North Yorkshire and obviously would like to visit these dogs before we buy one. If anyone can help me with this I would be extrememly gratefull and so would my son who asks daily please can I have a dog
Have heard they can suffer hip problems plus they are very expensive.

If you think she could be the dog for you then I would go along. Like FC said go along and even tell your son that you are going for a day out to support them and then see what happens from there. Don't build his hopes too much and see how it goes.
She may take to your family more than the other couple and they will see that, they will know who is best for the dog.....I would also have thought that if they were that keen for this other couple to have her and vice versa then she would not be getting taken to this bandstand at all
There must be doubts somewhere along the line......if it's to be, then it will happen for you but def go along I would say!
Let us know how you get on.0 -
If you dont get a dog, if this rescue is near, why doesnt son do a bit of dog walking for them?
Pam, as I mentioned, you get people who genuinely seem interested but when push comes to shove they dont turn up or they say they have changed their minds. The rescue is obviously aware of that and is taking the dogs to this open day to have as much chance as possible of a genuine offer of a good home.0
