Just hoping the springer side was hip and eye scored - would hate to think of the wee thing carrying a genetic problem causing it to go blind come the age of two

Poodles also suffer from HD, and Addisons disease so I hope the ancestory is also clear on the Poodles side.

I don't know why people always think that somebody who breeds two different breeds together is automatically a 'back street breeder' - it is possible to breed a cross breed and do it well, just as it is possible to breed a 'pure bred' and make a complete horlicks of it..........
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    Hi
Just to update you all, we brought Lady home on friday and despite being sick in the cage bless her she has settled into our house very well. We have cage for her on a night time but she has been exploring our garden all weekend and even had a dip in our pond  . So she has already had 2 baths . Ive already ordered the perfect puppy book so thank you too all that suggested it. I know people think that im mad getting a cross dog but tbh i think that the money ive spent on her is money well spend. She has already brought us more together as a family (oldest ds is a teeneager and spend lots of time in him room) even he is spending lots more time downstairs. We cant wait untill she has her 2nd injection so we can take her on the beach and up into the forest.
Thank you for all your input into this and I know it seems like I havent listen to some people by getting a rescue dog but I feel that we have made the right decision and up to now touch wood no allergies. :T :j , and like Suki said there is always piriton if i do when she gets older .

Whilst I agree raska - I cant see why anyone is breeding cross breeds for any other reason then to line their pockets - hence my back street breeder comment to this thread,

After having a less then well bred cocker spaniel Im very very sensitive to bad breeding practices as I think anyone whos parted with good money in all good faith for what turns out to be a very poorly animal would be. Since I lost my lovely lad Ive done my best to explain why its so important to get a pup thats been well bred, where the history can be checked back at least 5 generations and that all recommended health tests are done on the parents before breeding takes place.

Im no expert, just passionate that animals dont suffer needlessly - and back street breeders and puppy farmers breed suffering and misery along with the litters. This litter is already 11 weeks old and homes not found. Looking at that picture thats 6 pups still finding homes - whats the chances they will all find forever homes now they are past the "oh my god how cute" stage? Im betting there will be more then one of those making its way to a rescue - if its lucky

Happy to hear you are all settling in well together

Please dont wait for the second injection before taking her out - she needs yo be being carried and driven about in the car now. Honest the amount of socialisation you can do now before 12 weeks of age is so important and will stand you in good stead for later. And if your family have inoculated dogs - get them round to play at your house

The breeder told us that she had had so much pleasure in the puppies that that is the reason why she had only just advertised them. I have no reason to doubt her. She said that she could of got a lot more money for the puppies than she wanted but didnt want to charge any more, we havent paid any more money than we would of any other dog imho (appart from a rescue dog). We decided that we didnt want a greyhound or a poodle and the fact that we could have another dog that didnt make my allergies flair up is good news for me. We have given Lady a loving caring home and bth I dont see any problem in that. We didnt ask for her to be cross bred like that and I dont know if the breeder will do it again but I feel lucky because we have got her and if she hadnt of been available then we wouldnt of got a dog.

Suki - will it be ok to take the puppy out now then even though its not had its 2nd injection?

Yes - as long as you carry her and get her used to the car as well.

The more you socialise a pup before its 12 weeks the better. And thats taking them everywhere you can think off, school gates, shops, markets, parks, along busy roads - everywhere and at different times of the day and night

Just dont let her walk on the ground till shes had her 2nd injection. Some say wait another week after the 2nd injection but tbh you could have already introduced parvo on your shoes so I dont wait - but go with what you and your vet thinks

You can usually start puppy classes at 12 weeks as well and you can bring innoculated dogs tou your house and garden.

Im sure you will be happy with her and Im sure you will give her a loving forever home. A lot of the things I say are not always directed at the posters - but for those that read the threads when they too start thinking about getting a pup

Thanks Suki - i have been reading up a lot about puppies, but when i get the book im sure i will learn much more. I know that you didnt mean any harm in your posts and i can understand why people dont want to buy a cross breed puppy but in our instance we do feel she was the right choice, she is going to be totally spoilt i cant imagine home without her now even though she has only been around for the weekend. Im looking into pet insurance, im a bit confused so i need a few minutes to read the insurance thread as to what type to get. Thanks for your help.

Funny you should mention puppy classes because i have just rung up the local vet to get her 2nd injection, microchip and worming booked and the vet told me of local puppy classes that are on a monday night at my local church hall, so will look into that when i take her in.

Do please go to the puppy classes. Even I whos gone through puppy hood three times find them a great help - even if its just as a place your pup can interact with other pups

As I say - you have a potentially very intelligent dog there and classes and onto flyball, agility or field trials will give the family a way to work together and work your dogs mind
