Hi just to update you all on our visit to the "bandstand" at Saltburn (very nice beach btw)
We told our son on Friday night that we were going to visit a dog and he cried bless him he couldnt believe that he was actually going to get a dog after all these years of asking. He said "I thought I would never get a dog mum" I told him not to get his hopes up because Milly was already reserved by another couple and we were just going up to see her. When she got there she had been shaved so she didnt look anything like her picture and she is such a small little dog. We took her for a walk and she seemed fine. On the way back the wife of the other couple interested in Milly took her off us and said they wanted to take her for a walk. They were an older retired couple and very very pushy, she said that she had gotten in first with Milly and that they wanted her because they had another dog who was missing a dog that had recently died. They seemed to know all of the people at the resue centre and tbh me and my oh thought that we didnt have a chance really, but we left our name and address anyway.
Over the weekend me and my oh have decided to give the lady at the centre a call and say that we dont want Milly. She is a lovely dog but we dont think she is suitable, she is used to being with other dogs and would be on her own at our house, also she is very small so I think that my ds wouldnt get the enjoyment out of her as he maybe would a larger dog. My son wants a dog that you can throw balls for and take for long walks etc. So its back to the drawing board, just to tell you that we went to see the vicars cockerpoo on friday and what a lovely dog, bigger than Milly and really delightfull. They are very expensive though he cost them £750 which is way out of our league, and im happy to say that I didnt suffer any allergic reactions to him either.
Thanks for all your help, and we will keep on looking, the right one for us will come along.0 -
good luck with your decision, but do not judge a dogs stamina on its size - for example a jack russell needs far more walking and has a lot more stamina for ball fetching than a greyhound would!0

Hi
Just to let you all know that we are picking up a springerdoodle !!!!! puppy on friday, we went to see them yesterday and wanted to take them all home there absolutely gorgous. They are from a local lady so didnt have to travel too far.
I wanted also to thank you all so much for your help in this matter and if anyone has any pointers for bringing up a 11 week old puppy then as always any advise will be greatfully accepted.0 -
Im glad you have a dog but sad you didnt find one from a rescue.
There is a book called Perfect Puppy - you can get it on amazon.
You also need to be thinking about insurance now - there is a thread on this site about it.
Good luck and hope you have a long and happy life with the puppy.

Thanks for your reply hethmar, i know its not a rescue dog but because we were looking for a specific dog then it made our search pretty limited. We are all looking so forward to getting the puppy and are in the process of making our home puppy safe. :j0

good luck, but due to genetics not all of the litter will be hypoallergenic (as springers certainly are not!!) and I understand it is very hard to tell which puppies will bother you when they get their adult coat in.0

Thanks for your info fc we have chosen the puppy with the curliest fur so hopefully it should be ok. I didnt have any reactions from the dogs last night and I played with them and held them. Fingers crossed we have chosed rightly.0

ok, but as i understand it there is no way to tell till the adult coat comes in - at maybe nine to ten months, have you considered what you would do if it did trigger your allergies?
Did you see the parent dogs?0 -
I only saw the mother because they had brought a stud standard poodle in to mate with the mother. Hopefully we will of chosen wisely, if I do get allergys to the dog then I will have to invest in some wipes like hethmar suggested and hopefully they will keep my itching allergy at bay. Im also hoping that as another posted said that you do get used to the animal like she did, and like I did with the cat that we had some years ago.0
