Many dogs will mount as they are excited and don't know what else to do (some dogs on the other hand will bark, I know which I prefer.....)

Many castrated males get mounted because uncastrated male dogs seem to think 'if it's not like me, it must be female, lets give it a go'......
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I say go with what the VET advises & that I agree after her season may be best because the risks of spaying if she's about to come into season are big. Why put the Dog at more risk? I don't think mine will worry when spayed, i've had many female Cats spayed & none bothered at all, they didn't even seem to notice.

When mine was in season there weren't any issues, you don't HAVE to walk them @ midnight & of course anyone sensible would never leave a child in the house but I assume with two parents at home that's not an issue, it's what worked for us, we only went to the end of the road anyway.

She won't have to be walked at all & there's not much mess, or wasn't in Chay's case as she kept herself clean. Besides to me three weeks of it is worth no extra risk to the Dogs life when spayed. The last few weeks I didn't even know she was in season & had to assume! lol
