Those struggling - someone kindly put this link on for discount jabs, but the thing is, the animal must not have been vaccinated for 18 months:

You're lucky!!! My vet charges £54 for a booster and £60+ for the first jab!!!!

I keep reading more and more about how unecessary these annual jabs are

Hmm - 8week old puppy died of Parvo Yesterday - preventable (by vaccination). Bravo and well done to the non-vaccinators. No-one wants dead puppies, least of all the owner or me.

I guess if vaccines aren't needed, loads of people will refuse a swine flu vaccine if (or when) it becomes available. Ignoring the rest of the diseases, vaccination is worth it to prevent parvo alone
  • I pay £30 ( each for three dogs )

The way I see it it, that although its expensive, I chose to have the dogs, and I have chosen my vet very carefully, and would not trust just anyone with them. So all bar Flea and Worm treatments I have done through them.

I do however reduce costs in dog ownership where I can, they dont have expensive treats ( they have veggies/home made treats instead ) I feed a good RAW diet too. I also have a little pot that has £20 a month put into, and that covers all jabbies/flea/worm treatments and all those other little extras that crop up as and when

Ive heard of several dogs dying from parvo in the last year (I do help out with rescue). Its a dreadful illness and the dog goes down hill so swiftly.

Ive also heard the scare stories about vaccines for dogs - but then I heard them about vaccines when my kids were little - I weighed up the pros and cons and decided vaccination was less of a threat than the illness which could blind, maim or kill them.

A little harsh don't you think? Especially considering that Foxes can carry the Parvovirus & theres nothing a dog likes more than a roll in, lick or munch of Fox poo!

As far as I'm aware no-one, certainly not me, is saying don't get your puppy vaccinated! What is being questioned is the effectiveness of boosters & how often, if at all, should they be done?

No posts in here for almost a year :(

My doggy's booster is due next week. Can't remember how much we paid last year but saw an advert for EasyVets (3 branches in North East) where annual booster (I think) is about £25 or about £34 with micro chipping.

I love my dog to bits so I wouldn't dream of not having her protected against diseases!

My puppys first vacc was £26.75 as will the second one. Not quite sure how much they'll charge for annual vaccs. As a scientist though and someone who lost a kitten to parvo (she got it from her mum - she was a stray and was booked in for vets for vacc when it was discovered), I will always get my pup vaccinated. I get mine every year so she can have hers (I'm asthmatic so get flu jab).
