How much for dogs annual booster jab?

Life is simple really. If you don't like the price your vet is charging, go elsewhere. There are plenty of vets doing a very good job and trying to give a fair price. It is a costly business providing a high quality service but vote with your feet and get the bad vets out of business and look after the good vets. Ask your vet to justify the treatment and costs - I can always do that and a good vet should be able to give you a quick, simple explanation.

You can buy Drontal online without a prescription, I think I paid £1.25 per tablet ( but that was clubbing together with other dog owners to buy in bulk 100 + tablets) which does 10 kgs of dog IYSWIM

Yeah I saw the Bob Martin ones but I don't think it was those. I'd have to check next time I'm out shopping. Your acronym took me a while to figure out too but I think I got it in the end!

Yes I think you're right.....I'm now actively looking at other vets and asking other pet owners who they use. It's a shame really as all except one vet there is great but I'm beginning to think that they are a luxury I can't afford. As vet prices around here are pretty much all in the same region the option I'll most likely take is to cherrypick the cheaper option (internet drugs, vets4pets etc) for routine stuff and use the vet practice for the non routine stuff. The real criteria I will use for whoever I go to will be who they use for out of hours cover TBH as the one the practice I'm currently at is appalling, both in service and price. I thought I was unlucky with the out of hours place about 18 months ago but going by what I keep hearing my cats treatment was the norm

Around £30 is normal, although I never give my dogs boosters, go to www.canine-health-concern.org.uk Vets should tell the truth about how long the first vaccine that puppies get lasts, usually around 7 years!!! Would never pump my dogs full of this rubbish, last border terrier was 19 and labrador 17 and rottie 18!! speaks for itself. Good luck in reading up on this subject, can be a minefield.:rotfl:

I think someone may be making things up. 18 years for a Rotti would be a world record. I see very few over 12. A lab at 17 would be ancient and older than any lab I have seen and no vaccine lasts for 7 years for every dog. We have to protect the general dog population - albeit some dogs will have protection against distemper for 7 years but I doubt any dog will have full protection against all the diseases. We can always take a blood test to look for antibody levels but that will be another £50 or so.

A quick look on google tells that Rotties and Labs can live longer than you think they do.

I know a 15 year old rottie but TBH I'm not sure she should still be alive as her quality of life isn't good IMHO..........

Having had a pup die with Parvo, I'd never take the chance with not giving the booster to our Collie.

For the booster and a course of worming tablets last November at our local vets, it set me back £19

I see most of these posts were in 2008, so have prices jumped since last year?

I got charged £39 for a booster, £32 for kennel cough, and £8 for a worming tablet (though he is a big dog - it was the XL size of Drontal)

how does that shape up?
