I have a couple of pork chops that need using up. Was going to use the slow cooker. I also have a jar of applesauce that needs using up.
Whilst not a slow cooker virgin, was unsure about water content in the apple sauce. Would you add the applesauce after the chops are cooked? Or just chuck it in?0 -
After would be my choice - but what do the instructions on the jar say?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Can anyone confirm how I can test yeast? I've got an old small tin (Allinson). Do I just add a teaspoon of hot water to a teaspoon of yeast and see if it foams?
Thanks, C xx0 -

No, not hot! Just hand warm is fine. For a teaspoon of yeast you should probably need about 300ml of water - a teaspoon of water isn't enough to see a reaction. Mix it in and if it just sits there and does nothing it's past it. How old is the tin out of interest?0 -

It says Feb 2011 - but I know I haven't made bread for at least 18 months. Do I need to stir it at all? How long do I need to wait?

I presume yours is the big granules? I've made bread with that before and what you do is put a teaspoon full in the water, give it a stir then wait for about 10 minutes. It should start expanding and rising to the top.0 -

Yes, it's granules. And no that didn't happen - just went cloudy and the thinnest of foam round one side of the water. Guess it's inactive.
