i know this thread is a old one but i have a new spin on it , i was given a parking ticket for parking in a asda car park in the orbital site in swindon , i parked in a disabled place because all the parent an toddler ones had been used( i had my little boy with me) an i had been previously been told before by an asda employee that it was ok as they have about 12 parent an toddler ones and 50 disabled ones an the disabled ones are never full , do i just ignore it?
I personally don't have a very high opinion of people parking in disabled spaces when they are not disabled, but if it's a ticket from a private parking control company (and it almost certainly is on a supermarket carpark) then you can feel free to ignore it.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

yea i know i was in the wrong but at this car park all the parent an toddler ones are full quickly cuz theres only 12 and was told by asda staff we could use them cuz they have so many disabled ones that never get used0 -

First of all, you should know better than to park in a disabled space if you are not disabled. Having a child does not mean you need a special place to park - you just want one.
Secondly, Asda should not advise you to park there. By doing do, they are very possibly committing an offence under the DDA, which says that they should do all they can to ensure that their disabled bays are made available to disabled people.
Finally, ignore the ticket. You've not been fined. But don't deprive someone of a disabled space again.0 -
I'm glad to see that people are getting fined for using the disabled spaces when not disabled.
I myself am registered disabled and at the moment need to open the car doors was wide as they'll go to be able to swing my legs round to be able to get out but the amount of times I go shopping and all the disabled bays are full of people just at a cash point or nipping in to put they're lottery on. It's bloody annoying and unless I park on an end bay if there are any I really struggle to get out of the car.
I never used a disabled space before I got ill and as soon as I am fit enough not to need one i'll stop using them and leave them for people who generally need one.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -

I am also glad to see people getting a ticket for parking in disabled bays. Many a time when I am with my mother (who has Multiple Sclerosis) we have to park so far back from the enterence to see parents with their children parked in disabled bays. I often wonder to myself surely a toddlers legs are strong enough to walk to the shop then round it and then manage to play, but obviously a few inconsiderate parents do not also share this view. So well done Asda for issuing parking tickets I am in full support.:A0

whilst i agree they shouldnt park in disabled bays, people WITHOUT children also shouldnt park in the parent & child spaces. they're there, close to the store so that the child isnt walking through a dangerous car park. not because they dont have the energy to.0 -
Surely if the child was well behaved and the parent had control of their child, the carpark wouldnt be a problem. Just my view, parents can help having children people cant help illnesses:A0

not all children are well behaved, esp. when they ahve just been told they cant have the sweeties that just have to be stocked right next to the tills.
non disabled people shouldnt park in disabled spaces, people w/o kids shouldnt park in baby spaces, simples, eh?0 -
