Yes and thank god it is here, as some of us would not know what the hell to do or where to turn otherwise. Try getting a CAB appointment where I live and it is around 8 weeks time, so at least I can come here and ask away, and you lovely people reply.

  • She says its around £100 a month, which seems quite excessive considering we nearly all use our mobiles (except maybe her). I think it might be more like £70ish, but we don't tend to go too much into each others details. Its all swings and roundabouts, and when you have to budget then doing it the way you do is the only way you can properly account for it. Nothing I've heard you say sounds dishonest Rylynn..

Shadow, maybe ashamed is the wrong word, but you know I will be pleased when I am in a position to offer some friendly advice. And you are right, if it wasn't for this site, I know I would have probably lost it by now....

Regarding your BF's contribution. That amount could be quite fair depending on how much he pays for maintenance and his own bills etc. I don't think he would be expected to pay half for you, your mother and your son. Maybe as someone said, it would be easier to claim him as a lodger. As for housekeeping, if there are 4 of you in the house you need to put down £461. I don't think your mortgage is exhorbitant but you do need to be able to pay your bills once bankrupt or you will find yourself in the same position again. Is your mother in ill health, does she get a pension or any benefits? If she only gets benefits then she would not be expected contribute much to the household. Benefits are not included in calculating an IPA anyway. Glad you are in conversation with CCCS.

Okay is this sky or virgin and how many boxes do you have.

Okay ours is 3 boxes VIRGIN one in my lounge, one in mums bedroom and one in 14 year old sons chill room, my dining room. 2 extra boxes only added 3 months ago but got a deal on them.

    Line rental £11
    Talk evening and weekends £3.45
deal for TW and XL tv -£8.00
    Itemised bill £1.00
    TV XL £22.00
    2 additional boxes £30.00
    Discount on 2 boxes £11.00
    BB size M £18.00
Only just added (tennis freak) Sky Sports £18.00

total service charges £86.00 plus calls which were £4.24 total

    £90.49

Mum pays £10 towards this, son pays £10 out of allowance from his dad that he gets each month. So my bill is approx £70 now as I dont use my mobile I consider this is good value to me as a person, and only around £10 more than allowed for a phone and mobile. Mum has a BT line in my name but she pays that but it will be going on my SOA as it is in my name. She hardly makes any calls so the £40 normally allowed for a land line will be included.

So not sure how you mother reckons on £100 unless you have extra boxes and extra packages?

Hope that helps sorry for delay had to find the latest bill.

Thank you - I always thought it would be a bit unfair to ask him to pay 50/50 with me when he's only a quarter of the equation. My mum isn't in great health - she has heart failure, registered blind, had hip replaced, needs knee replaced and currently waiting for an op on her shoulder!!! she seems happy enough tho!!! - but she only gets pension (state and occ). She gets the lower rate of Attendance Allowance because she was over the threshold income with pension (only by a few quid) (I think - but I might not be quite right on this as I don't get involved with her finances at all) and as I understand it because she was over 70 (or 75?) when she was registered blind, it's not necessarily classed as a disability for all benefits because it could be deemed age related health issues (although we have a blue badge).

I assumed my mortgage was about average for the amount of it. I have asked the Housing Association about the possibility of buying it off me so I can rent it from them - but they didn't seem too keen. Otherwise, my new accommodation has to be reasonable for my mum - we currently have a stairlift for her, which I assume wouldn't be allowed in rented acc (depending on landlord) so it either needs to have a spare reception room downstairs for her 'bedsit' plus downstairs washroom, or a bungalow?

Rylynn, we're with virgin and have 3 boxes, one in mums room, one in sitting room and one in dining room which is where son spends most of time. We have the XLTV (what's TW?) - 2 of the boxes I bought last year (the virgin plus box), so that shoud have reduced her bill by what I thought would have been £30. Will have to check a bill and let you know... The other box is the standard virgin Digital box.

How are you going to list that on your SoA? Do they check what goes in and out of bank accounts and compare to SoA?
  • May I ask if you have applied for a council/HA house, are you on the waiting list? If not it might be worth doing especially with you looking after your mum. It wont take much time to fill in appliaction form.

We got our council property pretty quickly, and we were at the other end of the country, the gist is that my partner and I are unwell, but also my partner wanted to be near her family as her brother is disabled and her mum is getting on a bit, and could do with the help. This seemed to move things on a bit (but it could also be down to the area we applied for).
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

I do not have a digital plus box on the 3 digital ones, TW is talk weekends, which gave me the discount on the XL tv package, I also only have the 2mb broadband I have not upgraded it as it works fine, I have a router that works three PCs. I now also have talk evenings for an extra £3 something and worth every penny with a 14 year old who ran up a bill in January of this year chatting to some girl! I also have mobiles blocked on it so he cannot phone them, it is too costly and I dont need shocks when mums bill floats to through the letter box each month. Mum pays this bill by DD out of her account and then I give her the money for my part of it.

It will not go on my SOA Rubie as it is not in my name just as yours is not. My mum however has a BT phone which is in my name (I had a BT line and Sky before going over to Virgin) and the second line (in her bedroom) had to be in my name, so that will be going on my SOA, even though I do not pay it, it is a bill in my name, complicated I know!!

I would also suggest you speak to your local council as with your mothers disabilities you may find they will house you due to your present circumstances, not sure how long you would wait, but if you HAVE to get out due to repossession and your mother needs stair lifts etc they may move you up the list. You have nothing to lose by either making an appointment with a housing officer, or phoning them up and asking. And even filling in a form now would be a good idea, even though you are housed at present.

    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Hi Folkes - hope you are all well and thanks for the replies....

I haven't applied to the Housing - only asked them to buy my house, but they didn't sound too keen. I am reluctant to ring Council, cos I work for them and at present want to keep quiet about circs. I know confidentiality 'n all that, but people gossip and I have been there a long time so my name is well known - or am i being paranoid??

Rylynn we had same problem with my son! I will find out what package we've got. I have a feeling she pays more like £70 (DD from her acc) but will check. I know what you mean because I have a loan that my mum pays but i am liable for.

I opened an online acc with a diff bank to mine - feeling quite anxious about it incase they do a credit check once my rating has nose dived - tomorrow is going to be the first 2 cancelled DDs to credit cards. Any idea how long it will be before i start getting calls/letters from disgruntled creditors? The new bank account is very basic, and have not applied for odraft with it, but it comes with a debit card - d'you think there's a chance it'll be turned down and if it is what will i do then?

Sorry to go on, but one other thing that's bothering me, I noticed that MBNA payment slips go to Co-op bank - does this mean if I opened a co-op account they could get their hands on my salary?

Who's Vicola and what's the abuse??
