  • You could also ring National Debtline as they don't operatate an appointment system and you can discuss tings straight away with someone. Though it is handy to have your SOA with you when you speak to them.

  • Hello again!

I managed to pick up phone and ring CCCS today! I've got my telephone interview on Monday 29th September at 1.15.... Then, I cancelled nearly all the direct debits except the one I bank with (just opened a basic account on line which has been agreed in principle) so will cancel the bank cc when that's sorted. I've also got some letters ready to send out to my creditors telling them that I've cancelled the DDs and have a CCCS interview - as per their advice today.

I know I'm a computer phobic techno wotsit, so I apologise now, but I can't find the link that I used to do my SOA at the top of this thread, can anyone tell me what it is please.

Well all I can say is Congratulations for taking that step. Well done. action-smiley-033.gif

The worst part for me was the waiting around for appointments ect, just wanted to get it done and dusted.

I have just had a failed IVA due to long term sickness, and being off work for over a year and now only back for 25 hours, which meant I could not keep up the IVA, they did put it on hold for 18 months, which I did not expect.

I am now going down the BR route, from my gathering on this, you only put what your mother gives you towards her rent/keep/food etc. Or if she only gives towards rent as she buys her own food.

You are the one going bankrupt so I cannot see how they can touch your mothers pension, or her earnings if she works, as she is not your partner or husband. Right now this is a grey area for me and I need to clarify this.

For me it would like you having a lodger they only contribute for a room and food if you supply it. I could be wrong and I am sure someone here will tell us.

I seem to remember the officer at the IVA creditors meeting telling me that a court may not include what my mother gave me in a BR, but I have since been told that is not true.

  • Thanks Rylynn, maybe I could clarify that with my CCCS interview.. Am sorry that you have not been well, especially in your current situ.

Shadow - it was quite traumatic and i did have a few tears, but when I came off the phone I felt quite liberated and motivated to get things moving. It comes in waves I suppose - and I am expecting it to be a bumpy ride....

Thank you Deedee - that's the one!!

If you think about it Rubie, if you had a son in work you would be expected to take keep off him, but his whole wages or benefits would not be expected to be put into your BR. That is the way I understand it anyway. If your mother only gets a pension and pension credit then you can only take so much off her, maybe there is a percentage expected I have no idea, but worth clarifying as I will be when I finally call one of these lines, I am in the middle of doing my SOA to put up here before I call anyone.

It is a bumpy ride, but at least here you have plenty of people to ask things, and that is not only a great help but it also gives support to people who are just at the end of their tether.

Have you read the thread on here about the famous bankrupts, that may make you think that if people like that can end up BR it is no wonder us ordinary folk do as well, and some of them got to live the rock and roll life which most of us have not! Mind you nor would I want to!

  • Yes, that makes sense. But I would imagine if I ask her for keep, she would want me to take on the Virgin - and presumably that's a luxury that isn't allowed in these circs!

Yes, I do get a lot of comfort from lurking on here - but I feel a bit ashamed that I don't feel able to give anything back because still quite confused about it all and not enough knowledge to offer.

I haven't read about those - but the news today was very bleak by all accounts, so us ordinary folk are not first and certainly wont be the last!!! where will it all end tho??

Well look on the bright side when this is all over you will be so much happier, and that is what counts, your life and the future.

I only know as much as I do having gone into an IVA in 2005, I have no house no assets only my car which I need to get to work, so should have been advised back then on BR not an IVA but then the advice came from an IVA company who just made nearly £4k out of me so they are laughing all the way to the bank, whilst I now have to deal with BR, and the whole thing all over again.

When you have been through all of this I am sure you will be back on here to help others, that is the great thing about this site, people have moved on financially but they come back day in day out to help others.

How much does the Virgin cost her Rubie? Mum pays mine, but I then pay her, sounds daft as she then gives me keep, but that is the way we work it. It is not in my name which is what I wanted, as was not allowed in my IVA, laugh was they wanted to email me, no BB no email address! She also has a box in her room, which she does pay for. With my SOA on the go right now, I can see I will have the surplus to keep paying her for it. So maybe you can look at it that way. Oh does that sound dishonest it is not supposed to!

Why feel ashamed we were all new around the forums once, some of us hang around after the deed is done, some move on. The good thing is that you found MSE, and without it the BC journey would be a lot harder (well it would have been for me). I remember for two weeks all my posts were question after question after question. Thats what the board is here for.
