Is your Barclays Debit Card VISA?
If so the following may help
the article in the link is 2 years old and suppose goal posts could have been moved since it was published may still be worh persuing-nothing ventured!!!
The following debit cards will support a valid claim by using charge-back systems for all purchases: Abbey, Alliance & Leicester, Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Citibank, Co-op, Coventry Building Society, Halifax, Intelligent Finance, Lloyds TSB, Nationwide, NatWest, RBS and Smile.
All card issuers suggest you should try to sort any dispute out with the provider of the goods or services before taking the matter up with them.
Unfortunately, in practice, some are still not helpful even when you have done this. If a card company is not helping you in the way they have indicated they will, please contact The Telegraph at money@telegraph.co.uk or write to us at 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DT.

Ok just found an updated report from the BBC
I have a Visa debit card, but my bank says it hasn't heard of the Chargeback scheme. What should I do?
Unfortunately, a number of Working Lunch viewers have found this.
But a spokesperson for Visa Europe stressed that all legitimate claims that abide by the terms and conditions should be dealt with.
He told us that all banks who are members of the scheme should comply with the rules. The members include Nationwide, Barclays, Halifax, and Lloyds TSB.
So you will just have to insist, or ask to speak to someone more senior.

Nevskib, ask for a number for the debit card services and ring them. The people in our bank knew nothing but those at the debit card services were more helpful.
Found this in an article:
Because there is no "credit" involved in the use of a debit card, purchases using debit cards are not covered by the Consumer Credit Act and therefore Section 75 does not apply. However, the rules governing Visa debit cards allow banks, on behalf of their cardholders, "to seek financial redress from the merchant's bank if the cardholder has bought goods or services that will not be delivered, for example when a merchant ceases trading."
We also found this address below. So if our bank doesn't pay that will be the next step!!
If you have any problems you can write to VISA at the address below:

Just wanted to update you all that the refund promised to me by paypal finally arrived at my credit card so I can now go and look for a new buggy for my boy. :j
I know I'm one of the lucky ones having bought through ebay....
Good luck to those of you still fighting with banks. I'll be watching out for good news for you too...0 -
the call centre said because the payment was made via direct debit to paypal a claim was not possible. Starting to lose the will with this scam... Good luck with your Bankers !!
There was something on the news a few mornings ago about paypal not providing the same level of cover as using the card direct unless going through ebay.
Apparently if you pay via card through paypal banks do not have to comply with the charge back system when they would do if you had paid the merchant direct using your card.0 -

Oh what a relief for you pilchard :j and happy birthday for yesterday:beer:
I joined your facebook by the way-you mentioned about all the 'advice' you get thrown at you when pregnant and the best bit of advice i have ever had was: when the 'kind thoughtful' person is telling you their 'advice'....smile sweetly, nod your head....and pay absolutly no attention to them:p ( that was from my first midwife!!)
However i do have one wee gem of advice that has served me well with all 3 of my girls:
Buy a packet of the large square cotton wool pads from say superdrug that you would use for removing makeup ect and buy a cheap large bottle of whichhazel. Put the cotton pads in one of those freezer type bags that you can easily zip seal the top of and pour enough whichhazel in to soak the pads. Place in the fridge and when you arrive home from the hospital with your new wee bundle...place one pad on top of your sanitary pad and replace every time you goto the toilet-I promise you,it will bring you relief you cannot begin to imagine right now!!
The whichhazel reduces the bruising and swelling and the coldness is like a gin and tonic in the dessert
I speeds up the healing process like nothing else........just make sure you keep the bag sealed in the fridge to stop any germs!
Oh obviously if you have a c-section you should adjust the area you place the pads on:rotfl: it could help with the healing there aswell.
Thanks to my mum for that one........it was one of those things that is passed on from mother to daughter and never mentioned again
Oh my goodness........im broody again:eek:
xxx Laura!it takes more energy
to hate than to love...
love and relax!0 -

Thanks! I didn't realise how stressed I was until we got the letter and rang TSB to make sure we were getting the money (Its the way the letter was worded or I couldn't believe it!!) then a huge weight lifted off my shoulder..I felt it flutter away!
I have also learnt a lot from this experience!! Most of all there are more nice, helpful people in the world than rogues.:TNo Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
