So I called Halifax this morning, told them what had happened. The lady was very helpful and said she'd fill out the claim for a chargeback against Paypal for me, but she said it wasn't gauranteed to get me the money back. She said it was odd that Paypal hadn't paid out, as their buyer protection should've covered me, so she recommended I call them and see if they would give me my money back, then if I had no luck, she would fill in the forms for me. So, called Paypal, spent five mins trying to get through to a real person. Eventually got through to someone, could hardly understand what he was saying, kept having to ask him "pardon?!" He did say that the claims dept had made a mistake and that I WAS covered by buyer protection and WILL be getting my money back in full. He said I should get an email within the next two days saying when I'll get th

My internet connection's been down this morning, only just got on and checked my Paypal account. It says that:

    Status

We were able to recover £99.99 GBP from the seller and processed a refund to you.
    What happens next
We're working with the seller to recover the rest of your refund. We'll let you know when the seller is able to full refund your payment.

So does this mean that I'm getting it back? To be honest, I'll only truly believe it when I see it.

For future reference, can someone tell me if there's an easier way to get through to a human being if I have to call Paypal again?

    Many thanks!

They don't make it easy do they!!?? In the stuff I read on paypal, because we paid by debit card you wouldn't automatically get them money back from them, only if there was any in his account and that wasn't going to happen! If you paid by credit card you were automatically covered by the buyer protection. Does anyone really know?! Seems like it depends who you speak to on what info you get, whether its at paypal or the bank! Our bank just said we had to sign a form and we would get our money, there didn't seem to be any doubt...but, Like you I will believe it when I see it!

Also noticed you were told on the phone that you would get your money but the email said otherwise. Some people have rang paypal and argued about this then got a full refund (MonikaD I think) That might be worth doing.

I too have had the email from Paypal saying they found the dispute in my favour BUT there are no funds in the sellers account to pay me back!

I am putting in a complaint against Paypal....will let you know!

What I dont understand is why some of us are getting refunds and some arent? Anyone know? I bought the buggy thru Ebay and paid by debit card through Paypal. What have I done differently to anyone else?

    And the saga continues!!!

This is my email to Paypal so far.........have I missed anything???

I have recently filed a dispte with Paypal after paying for a buggy purchased through Ebay and not receiving the goods. Paypal have emailed me saying they have found the dispute in my favour but they cannot refund me because there are no funds in the sellers account, of course there are no funds in the sellers account, the seller was a conman and stole hundres and hundreds of pounds from expectant mums to be!
Paypal state everywhere that paying with paypal is the safest way to pay and offer buyer protection, obviously they dont!
I am currently in a large group of people that have been conned by this man, several of the members have been refunded by Paypal and a handful of us havent, how can Paypal pick and choose who they refund?
We have reported this fraudster to the police and they are dealing with the case and we are in contact with Watchdog.
We have all adhered to Paypals terms and conditions and cannot believe we are not being refunded when so many people have been.
I expect a response by return and my refund that is due to me.
    Thank you.
  • I really don't know why some people have been refunded and others haven't . What date did you open your dispute on ? I opened mine 8th Oct . I think the majority of people who have been refunded opened their disputes on this date too .

I opened my dispute on the 14th as something happened over the weekend, cant remember what now!! anyway I was a bit late, but that shouldnt make a difference should it?

I WILL get my money back, I will make sure of that, I just dont need the hassle if you know what I mean......cant be doing with it, getting on my nerves now!!! lol oh well xx
  • So that was 6 days after most people then . I can only think that whilst all our monies were being "held" the rest wasn't which enabled him to draw the rest out  . If you make a complaint against Paypal themselves Soolin on here says that they are very quick to respond .

Well ive sent Paypal a complaint, so we will see what happens........its ridiculas!!!
    I'll let you know! x
  • I thought everyone who ordered through ebay got the money back from the ebay cover?! Its hard to keep track of any pattern of who has and has not got paid!! I know I'm different from nearly everyone else because I bought through website and paypal with a debit card but those who bought with credit cards or through ebay seem to have got their money back. Unless its because you paid by debit card?? It doesn't have same protection, like us, we are now claiming through bank.

  • No because I paid through Paypal with a VISA debit card . And my money refund came from Paypal not Ebay as I opened the dispute with Paypal .

This is the reply I got from Paypal........

I have reviewed your account and this transaction and can
see that we were unable to recover any funds from the seller's account.

This transaction was based on a best effort basis which would have been
visible to you at the time of purchase, which means in was not covered
under PayPal’s protection policy as stated in the PayPal User Agreement,
recovery of funds associated with a Buyer Complaint cannot be guaranteed.

Please know that we will make our best effort to recover the funds in
question if they become available in the seller's account in the future,
and will take appropriate action against the seller. Such action may
include issuing a warning, a temporary restriction, or terminating the
account. Keep in mind that PayPal uses a number of factors, including
member complaints, to determine when to take action. Due to privacy laws,
we cannot discuss the details of any action taken.

I realise that this is not the outcome you would have wished for and I know
it may not meet with your approval but I do hope you will understand that
this decision was made in accordance with our company policy. While I
cannot change this I will make sure you objection is duly recorded.

Im at a loss for words!!!!! Any suggestions guys?
    What about this chargeback thing?????
