Is This Too Good To Be True?

I have emailed ebay on many occasions to alert them on fraudulent sellers. These sellers are still trading selling "fake" goods on ebay today. Ebay dont give a damn as they make £1000s on fees. Paypal likewise. I wish I could add something positive to this thread to reassure buyers but I feel I am just being "realistic" with these comments not "pessimistic" as some would belive. I once went to the police with a friend who parted with over £1000 for so called horse racing info which never materialised, the police were not interested in the fraud that had taken place, they only warned my friend "if something seems too good to be true the chances are it probably is" Does that not come back to the title of this thread.0

Yes it does TheRainman, however hindsight is a wonderful thing, and we wouldn't be here now if we had realised beforehand. What we are trying to do now is prevent it from happening to others by whichever means we can. If you don't feel you can help, then thanks but maybe you should stop posting here now.0

My buggy should have been delivered yesterday, needless to say it didn't arrive. Will be putting in a dispute with paypal. I hope the person above is not right, my understanding is that'll I'll get my money back.0

This is the same rainman that emailed around 20 buyers of the ultima 8 in 1 pram as soon as they had purchased from ebay alerting them on the potential dangers with this seller (all speculation at the time). Due to this "quick" action I have managed to get some people a full refund and had around 12 emails from buyers thanking them for my warning email. I would liked to have classed this as "help" Im sure the buyers did who got a full refund. Im sure the CID have the powers that be to "disable" his website if he is still trading. I would doubt very much if he is still trading, he will be long gone by now, all that is involved now is a "lessons learned session"0 -
we should stop people from placing orders online. I will try to find out how can we do it. I keep trying to get through to this guy but his phone is switched off. Is he still mailing people back? I emailed him last night and for the first time (surprise, surprise) I haven't heard back.....0

Yes TheRainman, we heard you the first time you told us about emails. However, while we continue to think of ideas on what to do next, you just keep telling us it's not worth it. Anything IS worth it if you ask me!0

Wel said!
There are still many people, including me, that did not recieve an email from you. We need to help those who have be 'had' and future purchasers, not keep going on and on about 'I told you so'. we have got your message of doom but we are trying to resolve the situation. Anything is possible. I have fought many organisation on a personal level and have never come out the loser. This will be dealt with in the same organised and thorough way I dealt with them. No stone will be left unturned. And this time there are people joining forces, sharing info and working together. WE WILL GET SOMEWHERE!No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
On ebay it now says he's not a registered user. Does that mean he has removed himself or been removed? No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

I do feel this is a nasty targetted scam and although I am not affected I will assist in any way I can to help the affected users get their money back. However Rainman does have a slight point, even after this started to get discussed people were still buying on the basis that it was worth a try and paypal would protect them, I posted quite megatively on the paypal protection aspect only to be assured that of course paypal would refund you all.
I was just looking through the completed buggies on ebay to make sure that the user isn't selling under a different name and it does appear that people buying buggies are happy to take a lot more risks than in other high priced categories. There are several 'private' sellers selling oodles of brand new items, all with stock photos , yet try selling an electrical item for £300 with a stock photo and you'd barely get any interest as people would assume it is a scam and yet with buggies everyone is bidding.
Likewise I was appalled to see people buying second hand buggies with descriptions like 'carefully used only a year old' with delivery only and a stock photo of the buggy brand new..would you buy a second hand dress for £300 without seeing it first and only seeing aa photo from an M and S catalogue from last year?
I couldn't understand why this scammer choose buggies as to didn't seem logical to me, however it appears that this is an area where you can sell anything, with any terms , stock photos and low feedback and people will still buy. The scum bag has obviously done a lot of research and that worries me, if he has done that my research into buying habits he will have protected himself against a casual buyer tracking him down.
I can only urge people to screen grab their own auction pages, set up folders of correspondence and insist that the police register a complaint . Work together and track this person down. Also, spread the word on other mum and baby sites to take care when buying online, a scam like this could easily happen again, don't let it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There is no way of knowing, although I would think on the balance of probability he has been suspended.
Can you pm me the user ID as I can't find him and am wading through pages of buggies and getting sidetracked.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
