WOW! I can't believe all this stuff. I fell for this crap & made the company £40. I've just had another call from another branch inviting me for an interview tomorrow! Its the exact same thing :|

Everything I have just read about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd interviews are exactly what happened on mine. My first day we were chauffeured around by a guy on his 9 hour interview!!

They have something called 'atmoshphere' where the music is booming and you are being taught the 5 steps to conversation & the 8 steps to success.. LOAD OF BULL! Every lunch the 'team leader' asked to lend money for dinner and drinks from the new guys, indicating to me that this was a little weird, considering he boasted for 3 days about having £1600 in the bank, however coincidently forgot his abnk card everyday.

I advise anyone who has been invited to work for this company to turn it down! I'm literally blown away that this happened to me and even worse.. It almost happened twice

I'd love to hear this, i bet it'd be identical to mine!
  • Had an interview with ORRICK MARKETING on Monday. Decided to do a little research after they asked me to come for an 'assessment/shadowing' day on Wednesday (tomorrow). Not going now thankfully.
They used exactly the same speech that has been written on here. 'I was sitting in that seat a year ago and look at me now', 'We require 100% effort', 'If I wrote down what I was earning on this piece of paper you would sign the contract right now', 'I did my degree in the same area', etc. Really !!!!ed off with them. I am a recent graduate and thought I was more intelligent than this. Feel like phoning her back, just to shout at her.

Registered with this site just to warn people about them. If anyone wants the info:

    Stay away.
  • is magnum direct the same thing anyon e have any experience with this company..?
  • Hello everybody, i too was conned into joining one of these companies ( David Coulson Direct Marketing ) i worked there for 3 weeks.
for the first week i was in the office from 10am, started walking around the streets at 2-3pm and did not finish till 9pm i then had to go back to the office and usually did not finish till 10-11pm. this went on in the first week every day. the second week i had to go on a road trip and we got up at 8am and started walking around at 10-11am and did not finish until 9pm this went on for a full week. the third week was the same as the first, in the office at 10, home at about 11:30-12 at night. It came to the Thursday of the third week and i had, had enough, walking around a countryside village with my team leader who then turned around and told me that he was going to the next village to work there. He left me in the village alone to walk around in the rain to knock on random strangers door's. By 7pm i was freezing cold, !!!!ed off and fuming, i thought to myself right knock on this door, good response i carry on, bad response i call it a day.
so i knocked on the door give a massive smile and said, "hiya are you the boss of the house, Fantastic. I'm here today on behalf of The National Deaf Children Society. Have You Heard...", the farmer at the door looked at me grunted and said, "I'm having my tea, not interested, !!!! off". and i had a door slammed on my face. So i went for the 10 minute walk to the pub and sat in there for the next 2 hours enjoying a nice cold refreshing glass of coca cola and a mouth watering, fresh, home made boiling hot leek soup.. i can definitely say that the best part of working at that company was those 2 hours in the pub. in total i worked 160 hours at the company and made £115.

DO NOT WORK FOR DOOR TO DOOR OR ANY COMPANY THAT SAYS DIRECT MARKETING COMPANIES. They will work your !!!! of and pay you in dust.

If it is on a commission base then you will make very very little money and trust me when they say you will have an amazing car, a massive house and be a millionaire by the time your 40, dream on.

but if you like working for dust then go for it.

    Hi ,

We look forward to meeting you during your preliminary appointment on 21/04/2011 at 2:00 PM. We have reserved a meeting with one of our management team. Please be sure you are dressed smart and have a printed copy of your CV with you so the manager has one during your appointment. When you arrive press the buzzer marked JMS MARKETING, please ask for Danielle.

We anticipate the day being busy due to the number of people currently looking for work in Liverpool, so please keep us informed if you are running late or unable to attend. We will do our best to contact you if we run into delays; however you should clear at least 20-25 minutes for the interview including any waiting time.

During your appointment we will want to learn more about your background and your career goals, so please be prepared to discuss these. We will also discuss the services we provide for our clients, and outline where you could fit in to our plans for 2011. Please take note of any specific questions you have as they can be discussed fully in your meeting.

As this is only a preliminary appointment, we will not be making any final decisions at this point. Some candidates will be invited back for a second, more thorough, assessment where they will get to spend a few hours with ourselves. This day is an evaluation of the candidate’s work ethic, ability to recall information, and overall communication skills. It is also very helpful for the candidate since they are given the opportunity to observe the role and educate themselves about our marketing system. Upon completion of this assessment, we will look to make a mutual final decision.

I have included directions below but if you have any difficulties locating us, please do not hesitate to ring and I will navigate you. See you soon!

    Kind Regards,

    Danielle

  • I have some more to add to the list, this time in South Wales.

I applied for a job with Cardiff Marketing Services via totaljobs.com, very late in the evening on Tuesday the 19th. On Wednesday 20th, I recieved this email at 7.48AM:
    Dear Sarah-Jane ,

Thank you for your interest in our openings. We have been astounded with the number of individuals that have applied for this opening so far but a member of our management team has had the opportunity to review your CV and would be really interested in meeting you.

The next step is to call our administration team on 02921 328 229 in order to book an appointment with us. I'm sure you understand that we are looking for people that are both excited and serious about our dedication to expand alongside our clients and who understand that we are only looking to sit down with the best individuals.

With the large amount of applicants, we have made twenty slots available for the appointments. This is due to the fact that we are seeking individuals that are willing to start as soon as possible.

Sarah-Jane , congratulations on being selected for an appointment with ourselves, and I look forward to your call later on today.

You can reach us on 02921 328 229. The office is open from 8.30am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

We look forward to your call!

    Kind Regards,

    Andy.
Now, obviously I wasn't going to call them at 8 in the morning, so I left it and the more I thought about it, the less I thought I actually wanted the job. The advert was vague, there was no salary listed and even though the advert mentioned cosmetics, there was no actual job role described. So I didn't call.

By 10.00AM, they phoned me. I spoke to Andy, who was so damn cheerful and pleasant to speak too, I got sucked in. He said that the management had singled out my CV, and it was so important I went in for an interview, that they felt the need to call me, in case I didn't phone them. Before I knew it I was having a telephone interview, and he was asking me questions like "why did I apply for the position" and "would I be interested in working my way up the career ladder, because this position is all about working towards targets, and being a team player". I reeled off some key words like "customer service", "goal orientated" and "a team player" and he replied with more buzz words designed to make me feel like I was saying the right things; lots of "fab", "brill" and "just what we're looking for".

He invited me to interview, & sent the following email, confirming the date etc.

    Dear Sarah-Jane ,

    It was a pleasure speaking with you, I'm delighted to invite you in for a preliminary appointment as we discussed;
    Date & Time: 22/04/2011 at 2:00 PM

I look forward to seeing you then.

    Kind Regards,
    Andy.

So now I had an interview for a job I didn't really want. I went into town to find where the place was before the actual interview, and found it at the ground floor of a block of buildings that can be rented for company use. The sign outside said CARDIFF MARKETING SERVICES, MSG, JUNIOR ENTERPRISES, SSC and one other than I cannot remember. I think the smaller companies I mentioned above are all under the umbrella of VENUS MARKETING LTD. I had seen MSG jobs advertised on most of the job search sites and had avoided them like the plague with their vague job descriptions and "nothing" jobs. So I was pretty annoyed to find out that I had applied for a job willingly with people who were obviously the same company.

I went in and asked for a copy of the job description that I had applied for. The boy who was not older than 25 rushed off and printed one off for me, but rather than it being a job description it was just a beefed up version of what was online. There was still no hint of what the job actually entailed, and the only mention of a wage was that it was paid weekly and was based on if you met your weekly sales targets or not.

So that evening (last night) I was doing some research on the company, trying to find out what sort of interview questions they were going to ask; and that is when I came across this site!

The emails I got from the company are pretty standard with what other people seem to have recieved. Same sentences, different order. The Cardiff Marketing Services website is okay; full of stock corporate images and full of text that doesn't actually say anything; one thing that did catch my eye however, was the involvement of Victoria Jackson makeup, and in their offices it seemed to be wall to wall TalkTalk banners and posters.

So having seen this forum I decided that I wasn't going to go to the interview. But then I thought, no, I'll go for the laugh and see what happens. Half an hour before I was due in for my interview, they called me to make sure I knew where I was going, i.e. to make sure that I was still going to go in and see them.

I went in with the printed copy of my CV as requested and was greeted (eventually) by some girl probably just older than me, who gave me a questionnaire to fill out.

I say questionnaire, it was actually just writing out my CV again! Name, DOB, legal to work in the UK, own a car, previous employer and role, most recent education, what are my ambitions and what are my interests/hobbies. I reeled off the usual and waited for my interviewer to appear.

Eventually, she did. She introduced herself as Victoria, but after some more research I will assume is Victoria Nupen. Just Google her name and you get the gist. She asked me about my previous role, when I could start and if I would be interested in working my way up the career ladder to management with time. Then she told me a bit about the company, but it must have been in code or something because she didn't actually tell me what they did. Lots of "face to face", "selling our clients product" and "introducing people to ourselves and our clients". Hmmm.

Towards the end of the interview, she played down my chances, saying they had "literally hundreds of applicants" to whittle down to "just five".

    Sure, lady.

Anyway, I just had my completely unexpected, totally out of the blue phone call (not), letting me know how lucky I was that I was one of the lucky five to be invited back for a second interview and I politely declined. Her tone changed within half a second, and I detected a slight hint of annoyance. "You shouldn't have come down if you didn't think the role was for you...."

Yeah, well, you shouldn't trick people into thinking it's a real job with actual prospects!

Hope my experience will save someone else the time and effort in their search for a job. I'll repeat what another posted closed their similar experience with: if it seems too good to be true, it is!
