• I think the best way to screw these guys is to waste their time. Turn up dressed in your worst clothes, pj's if you can. Sit in the interview with your feet up on the desk, chew gum, blow bubbles.

The more informed people that go and waste their time, the better. The fewer will get scammed.
• Hi Thanks thanks for your reply so they are the same company thats all these threads are about ....

Same happened to me, however, they have a new address.

Details of latest letter is as below.

JMS Marketing Ltd

Citrus House
40 - 46 Dale Street
Liverpool
L2 5SF

Hi ,

We look forward to meeting you during your preliminary appointment on 21/04/2011 at 2:00 PM. We have reserved a meeting with one of our management team. Please be sure you are dressed smart and have a printed copy of your CV with you so the manager has one during your appointment. When you arrive press the buzzer marked JMS MARKETING, please ask for Danielle.

We anticipate the day being busy due to the number of people currently looking for work in Liverpool, so please keep us informed if you are running late or unable to attend. We will do our best to contact you if we run into delays; however you should clear at least 20-25 minutes for the interview including any waiting time.

During your appointment we will want to learn more about your background and your career goals, so please be prepared to discuss these. We will also discuss the services we provide for our clients, and outline where you could fit in to our plans for 2011. Please take note of any specific questions you have as they can be discussed fully in your meeting.

As this is only a preliminary appointment, we will not be making any final decisions at this point. Some candidates will be invited back for a second, more thorough, assessment where they will get to spend a few hours with ourselves. This day is an evaluation of the candidate’s work ethic, ability to recall information, and overall communication skills. It is also very helpful for the candidate since they are given the opportunity to observe the role and educate themselves about our marketing system. Upon completion of this assessment, we will look to make a mutual final decision.

I have included directions below but if you have any difficulties locating us, please do not hesitate to ring and I will navigate you. See you soon!

Kind Regards,

Danielle

Thanks so much for this, I recieved this email this morning and it was exactly the same as this one, I am so relieved I decided to do some research into this before I went for the interview. I can't believe how easy it is for them to scam people like this.

Yep I fell for it, thought WICKED, wandering around chatting to people all day, easy. Its not as easy as you'd think, only a few people are consistantly good at sales, i'm not one of them.

I was out knocking the doors one day and a bloke answered, then proceeded to offer me £50 for a shag, I politely declined and tried to walk away when he grabbed my arm and attempted to drag me inside his house. I got away and phoned my housemate (i had got him a job) who was a few streets away, and I helped him work his 'territory' for a while, I.e we knocked the doors he had been told to do.

I got told off by our leader for not calling him, because he's the leader, yea, but i dont particularly like you, and I know this guy better. I then got a bollocking off the manager when we got back to the office and told to get over myself and start making sales again. !!!!!!? I WAS NEARLY RAPED!!

These companies dont give a toss about you, they just want you to make sales so they earn money.

The company I worked for was Empire Organisation
I'm not a bloke! :rotfl:My real name is Sinead, Sid is my nickname :rotfl:

I'm quite gutted that I fell for a company exactly like this a couple of months ago. I saw an advert online, like all the ones mentioned above, which claimed that there was "No Experience Necessary!" and they were looking for graduates to join their management training programme. The company was Bradford Marketing in Birmingham. Submitted my CV and received a reply within about 4 hours, inviting me for a first interview the next day. I was a bit surprised that it happened so quickly, but didn't really think much of it at the time.

First interview was ok, only lasted about 10 minutes and the manager explained the stages of training I would go through if I was successful - well, I thought he'd explained them, but realised later that he hadn't really told me anything about the actual job, only that I'd be running my own office in just over a year! All sounds very good, doesn't it? I still had no idea what I'd be doing. But I got a call that evening at around 6pm to tell me that I'd been successful in getting through to the second interview. I received an email telling me to bring a coat and comfy shoes, that the interview would last from 11am until 8pm. I assumed (very naively) that if was because we'd be visiting "clients", which is what was also said in the email.

When I got to the office the next day, the manager introduced me to an account manager who would be taking me out on the observation day, telling me that they would be observing me and that the third interview would be determined by a recommendation. We got on a train (me and one other girl, plus someone who had already got the job and was being trained. We were told that she would take priority, as she had already been successful) and ended up in the middle of nowhere. Should have been much more suspicious than I was! It was only then that the account manager mentioned that the job was door to door sales. I wish, I WISH I had left after the first hour. It was ridiculous, the other interviewee and I had to wait outside on a street corner while the account manager went door knocking with the trainee, because they "couldn't have more than 2 people in a house at one time." We were stood there in the cold (in February!) answering some sales related questions, freezing, in the dark and and wanting to go home, but we didn't for some reason. I don't know why. At this point, we still hadn't been told it was commission based. We had worked it out for ourselves by then, but waited around anyway to see if it got better. It didn't, and when I complained that it was cold the manager made me feel like that had harmed my chances of getting the job.

Back at the office, I apparently got a great recommendation, and the manager told me I'd been his favourite person from the interviews the day before. Yeah right, he sees hundreds of people a month - the whole company is like one endless interview process. So many people leave that they always need more! But I accepted the job, telling myself that I had nothing else to do so might as well stick it out and how it was.
After a few days, I knew it definitely wasn't for me, and I couldn't understand all the people around me being SO enthusiastic about the job. All the high-5's and loud music were mental and a bit scary, I started to feel brainwashed. Somehow I managed to sell a few "apps" (and got about £27 in total for them after I left) but spent every day thinking about quitting while I was knocking on doors in the rain. Believe me, you don't want this job if you value your self-respect.

Looking back, I think I stuck it out because I was made to feel like I'd been specially chosen and was good management material. I was also definitely made to feel like if I quit it would be my fault for not being strong enough or wanting the prize enough, as this was how they talked about anyone who left (and quite a few people left during my short time there). It was only when I talked to my boyfriend about it in detail that he told me how dodgy he thought it was, that I really started thinking about how crazy my working day was. I didn't even want to tell my parents what I was doing because I knew they'd tell me how stupid I was being, not a good sign!
If you want to have any kind of life outside work, this job makes it impossible. I didn't get home until at least 10pm every night, sometimes later - they also recommend that you work Saturdays to "fast track" your programme, which I wasn't willing to do. After not spending any time with my friends or boyfriend for about 3 weeks, and making almost no money, I quit. Best decision ever.

Really wish I'd thought to research the company properly and read this forum, it would have saved me a lot of hassle! But it's good to know that I'm not the only one who's been taken in by their smooth talking. If you're reading this, I urge you NOT to waste your time accepting a job with a company like this. You could get a much nicer job with much better money, that doesn't take over your life :)

Once on the train, we have 2 goals:
-Explain why Direct Marketing/Sales is so effective.
-Why we are growing so fast and where the interview could fit in.

Little background of the company.
The reason for our growth is because of our massive clients. Eg, Talk Talk, Victoria Jackson, FIL. (They work with the 50 top charities in the UK such as RSPCA and red cross). They were so happy with the results last year that they doubled our budget this year.

That is why you are here today, we are not just looking for sales people, we are looking for people who can pick up the basic sales, help teach it to others, but more importantly manage teams of people and are clients. So its really important that you look at everything today from a managers perspective, managing 30 people not just as somebody doing the sales (they’ll forget about the field and dream about management).

What we will be doing today is a Community Awareness Program. It has two benefits for our clients.
1)Spread brand awareness
2)Acquire new donors

So, who do you think would donate 8.50 a month to our charity? (anybody). If you were the manager of the charity, where would you send me to find anybody? (Stations, High streets, keep going until they say, work and at home).
We have 3 main channels to find new customers: B2B, Events and Residential. We do the outside sales and go where our clients want us to go. The most effective is Residential which gives 95% coverage of an area and gets the whole community involved. This is what we’re doing today.

Have you heard of the Law of Averages? Out of the 100 people I speak to today, how many do you think would be interested to sign up? Just 3-5% is all we look for, 1 in 33 (this way it seems easier). The more people I speak to, the more likely I am to find a yes. That means out of 100 people 97 will say no. Why do you think..? (Get them to bring up all the common negatives we have in the field, at least 6+). It is ok because we are just looking for genuine positive people who want to help our charity. If it’s just me signing 3 people is not that good but by the end of the year we plan to have 500 reps doing sales for our charities (always keep the same number even if we grow).

500x3= 1500 sales/day
1,500x5 = 7,500 sales/week
7,500x4 = 30,000 sales/month
30,000x8.50 = 255,000 from 1 month of donations(everybody is signing up for 12 months)
255,000x12 = 3 million pounds for 1month.
12months x3 million = 36 million pounds

(All the time you ask day of observation would you be excited to work with us in the middle of the recession with this type of results)

Finish by saying: “We still do not have enough managers to run 500 reps yet and thats the reason why we are interviewing people such as yourself because we need a bigger management team to help us get there”

I recently applied for this job as the advertisement on the internet said nothing about commission based earnings. I was invited to an interview the very same day I got a phone call from them. After reading most of the posts on this site I believe this is yet another scam company. I entered a room with about 6 other people and was told to fill out a small questionnaire and after that went into an interview room with these people. The Managing Director entered the room and then explained which companies works with him yet he only mentioned SKY when doing door to door sales. After reading some posts I can relate to the fact that he brought a very attractive young girl in to the office and said she is only 21 and will be a new managing director because of the scheme which we wanted to embark on. I have been contacted for a final interview tomorrow and thank you for everybody who has wrote on this forum because i now know I shall definitely not be attending. Just a warning to anybody who applies to Magnum Marketing :)
• Blackcode Advertising SCAM

As I am recent University graduate in desperate need for work, I turned to mass recruitment agencies such as totaljobs, monster etc.... only to be resputed with anger and frustration and NO job!

I had sent my CV to a so called marketing company 'Blackcode Advertising' based in Brighton, with the genuine thoughts that it would be such a marvellous experience to work there.

After receiving a very slapdash and quick phonecall, whereby NO details of the job description were given, NO contact number was given but yet an appointment for the following day was set... alarm bells starting ringing! I went onto their 'website', (if we can call it that), to find like someone mentioned earlier.. a lot of words and jargon descriptions. But still at this point I truely beleived that this was a genuine interview and establishment.

After typing it into google and following the thread on here, it clicked!! They are scum *cough cough* scam ...ers!! After looking at their facebook page and going over their website... all the signs are inherent! Therefore, PLEASE do not rise to the shallow bait. I would have been completely vulnerable to it, had it not been this thread. So thank you!!!
