how much should window cleaning cost?

I think my mum pays about £6 a fortnight for a window cleaner in Glasgow city centre to do 4 windows and a glazed door. The windows here get black with car fumes so its very easy to tell when they have not been cleaned as said.
He demands the money whether the windows are done or not and sometimes turns up weekly without doing any cleaning hoping mum will have forgotten she has paid him already the week before.Mum lives in shelter accomodation. The same group of window cleaners do all the houses and flates in the area so goodness knows how many pensioners are paying them for doing nothing.
I think the housing association should sort this out for their tenants."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

I hope your mum doesn't pay him if he hasn't cleaned the windows. I also hope she makes a note on a calendar the days she pays him so she can check back to see if the money is actually due.I think the housing association should sort this out for their tenants
Has anyone alerted them to what is going on?
As she lives in sheltered housing, is there a warden to whom the residents can go to with this sort of problem?0 -

I'd also like to comment as I'm a window cleaner too. I agree with Jaykee, running a business costs money - window cleaning is also quite a physical job, and there's the fact that we spend half of the day on top of a ladder, sometimes quite high. My average price is £8, think about it, paying someone £8 to spend 20 minutes climbing all over your house, jumping over fences and a avoiding dog cr*p! I ask you, would you do it for £8? Then there's the task of getting the money for the jobs I did when the customers were out, I leave a note indicating when I'll return to collect the payment and I often find nobody home, which means I spend time and petrol driving around for no reason, this is all part of the business of course and at the end of the day window cleaning is a good earner, as is plumbing, building, gardening etc....0

Why have you suddenly commented on a post that is a year old? Do you have a chip on your shoulder?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I've just use one of those extending window washer jobbies that come round at Aldi from time to time. I just fire the water up from the hose, takes me about 15 minutes to do my eight windows and two doors. Free!

I thought that you were no longer allowed to work at the top of a ladder - quite high!0 -

What are you talking about! I do my own windows as I only have the ground floor, but they are 4 feet from the road and can get quite dirty. I did them 6 weeks ago with tap water (and washing up liquid) and they don't yet need doing again0
