I have 10 windows, 1 pair of french doors & a glass front door.

    £18 for outside only.

    £45 for inside & out.

I get them done every 6 weeks. Alternate outside only & both sides.

EDIT for location, Surrey - south east.
  • £6.50 for detatched house with 9 windows, french doors, glass front and back door - VAT registered, insured, window cleaner in the north of England.

Unfortunately, man across the road who is in all day says he doesn't do a thorough job but with credit crunch, etc, can't bring myself to cancel as window-cleaner v nice man and v apologetic about it going up 50p next month.

To put things into prespective alittle, you might pay a taxi driver £4/5 for driving you home from the local pub. All he has is the expenses of the car and insurance etc. It will only take him about five minutes to drive you home

I agree the post was rude but I think your example of a cab driver is way off the mark.

My hubbies a cab driver, he has a top of the range new Ford Galaxy to pay for, wear & tear, public carriage office MOTS (even on new cars), road tax, diesel, cleaning of car, car licensing with PCO, his licensing with PCO, public liability insurance, when its three years old there will be the other MOTS too, repairs, depreciation, cab office rent, mobile phone rent, tax & NI.

Probably more I haven't put down.

But his min is £7.50, I think its about £18 as a people carrier & somewhere in between if booked as an estate, but its Chelsea.

Thats why I appreciate a window cleaner has bigger overheads than a bucket & squidige

Thanks for all the responses - who knew it would spark such debate!
In the end the guy (who had already cancelled on us once) didn't even turn up so I am still none the wiser!

If anyone knows any window cleaners in Edinburgh please let me know!
On the liability side of things - we have 2 windows which look out onto the street so goodness knows what would happen should a W/C fall - I think I would prefer one with insurance!

Federation of Window Cleaners (FWC) they may point you in the right direction to a professional window cleaner.

All there window cleaners have to be insured properly and have H&S training.
  • I can't believe people are genuinely so cheap! I wouldn't clean 10 or 15 windows for £4.50. I've always wondered how window cleaners can work for so little, how on earth can you charge £5 and less and support yourselves and a family?
  • We paid £20 last year for our 3 bed semi. But only once.

The chap works from the ground with a trailer and a long brush with water pumped to it. The result was simply abysmal.
  • I pay £20 in rip off London for my 3 bed detached. It's the average rate round here. He is insured, but it's still a lot of money grrr.

You should have stuck with it.
The water-fed-pole system only works after about 2 or 3 cleans.
It's like a treatment really. Did your WC not warn you of this?

Well I pay £25 for my house in south west London. This is not just because it is rip off London, it is a very tall Victorian house with big sash windows so you either need a large ladder, or a good head for heights to do the top and there is a lot of glass. Mostly window cleaners do it once and then find easier windows somewhere else and don't come back.

Our regular cleaner uses a ladder on ground floor and then sits on the outside on the window sills, or stands, to clean them. He uses a squeegee and then rinses them with clean water. We have 2 large bays with windows on three sides at front of house (ground and first floor) he just does the fronts, plus a glass conservatory at rear (just does the doors and glass above them) plus 3 large sash windows at rear of house (ground and first) which he does inside and out. This involves raising and lowering them and they are quite heavy.

He said he has been undercut recently by Polish workers trying to get his round but my neighbour said these guys use a remote control pole which does not give satisfactory result.
