Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

I am about to leave Virgin unless they come up with some extraordinary deal for me, I have 2 TV boxes- XL -M broadband and phone (I kept my outside aerial in my 2nd bedroom ) and this costs me around £60 a month, digital isn't due in my area untill 2012 but 2 weeks ago Virgin have cut the analogue signal to my outside aerial, I get a message on screen telling me they have done this but the guy on the telephone says they haven't, he sent out an engineer who also says its not Virgin. I then phoned UK digital who says my transmitter is Crystal Palace who is still broadcasting analogue to me but some how Virgin have done this to a lot of people as a ploy for more custom. I know it sounds impossible and what do Virgin have to do with my aerial you might ask, I can't get to the bottom of it but it must be illegal. I bought the sender boxes which were ok at first but now I get a message on screen saying I am not authorised to get this service with a code 3010. Has this happened to anyone else? I am still waiting for Virgin to get back to me - it had better be quick as I am looking at Sky deals
Help please - LucianiI personally dont think Virgin do any deals!?
Im paying £113 a month for my package and have been for the past year. when i wanted them to give me 2 HD Premium subscriptions for free i threatened to cancel.
Cancelations offered me a £2 a month saving for 3 months if i took a new 12 month contract, so my bill after that would be £127!
Even as a new customer they dont want to know! Possibly £7 a month off for a couple of months.
Shocking! Let me know if anyone knows any different.0 -

I had sky tv with 4 value packs and skys sports 1. I paid about £34 per month and watched freeview channels basically. Sky Sports 1 was a far too exspensive. I know Sky offer HD and eventually 3d but is it really worth it? Especially with BBC/BT/Freeviews project Kanvas which means that freeview is going HD. I now pay for BT Vision.....waaaaaaaaaay better than Sky. Its loads of top notch shows that you just cant watch on Sky unless you watch them at the time. Also...Sky Sports 1and2 with free ESPN!!! for £11.99. on top of a bronze pack which is £14.99. Thats £28....I can remove Sky Sports whenever and i can watch things in my own time!! Instead of flicking through 100's of useless channels on Sky. Save money....get (in my opinion) the best broadband out there with BT (Having had o2 and Sky broadband) and ive got my line rental with BT for £9.49 having paid upfront...sweet deal. :cool:0

I called Sky today as I had my Sky + HD box installed 12 months ago and wanted to cancel the HD as I had had it the 12 months required. When I told them I wanted to cancel they told me that if I kept the HD and TV package that I currently had (which is the sports pack but not movies) they would only charge me £43 per month instead of the £54 it should cost for the next 12 months. They told me that this is an offer that they are doing at the moment for existing clients.
I also called to cancel my mums HD package as she had gone over the 12 months required and she received the same offer. She now pays £48 instead of £61 per month.
I was also advised that I had a free call out repair on my account so if my sky box was ever faulty to call cancellations and they would send somebody out free of charge and all repairs and new equipment would be covered.
Basically call cancellations and see what they can do for you if you are an existing customer.0 -
We are having to cut back on monthly outgoings, so I asked DH to ring Sky today, he told them he wanted to stay with them but couldn't afford the price it was, and they have agreed to reduce the cost for 6 months, reducing it from £58.50 to 34.25, saving us £24.25 per month.
He is amazed it was so easy, just a 2 minute 'phone call, just shows it's always worth trying.
