Just called Sky to cancel Sports channels, Movie channels, music and style packs. Kept the rest at £22/month plus line rental £11 and broadband £5 (£7.50 from 1st Sept)

    Thus saving £29 a month.

Nothing offered as I've been on a 20% discount for 6 months. Once the family find out they can cope without all the channels. I'll see what else I can cut

Needless to say I'll be watching any football I fancy online using the Sky broadband on a good quality stream.
  • Hi there

I was on 3 mixes (£20), broadband everyday (£5), Talk Freetime (free) and sky line rental (£11), at £36 in total.

I wanted Sky Sports and ESPN, which would have been an extra £29, taking me up to £65, which I didn't want to pay.

I noticed that BT Vision were doing Sky Sports 1,2 and ESPN for £12 a month (when taken with Broadband, Line Rental and TV Mixes, etc). The total including Sky Sports and ESPN would have been £55.

On calling customer services, and selecting the cancellation option, I said I was leaving for BT Vision as I could get TV, Broadband, line rental, and Sports+ESPN for £55. The rep said "on you go then".

I then asked if Sky could do anything price-wise, and she tapped on a calculator for a moment, and then said she could give me the 3 mixes (£20), Sky Sports and ESPN (£29), and then discount all of that for 12 months by 25%, so £36.75. Adding in Line Rental and Broadband, I'm up to £52.75, but that's still better than BT Vision, and a lot better than the £65 they would have charged had I not said I was leaving!

    Cheers,

    Keith.

Hi (not sure if this is the right thread, sorry)
might move to sky and was offered basic package + sky sports and espn in HD for £46 for first 3 months and £55 following 9 months.
Set up, installation and box for free.

Is this the best price I could get this for (I've been with BT vision and am coming to the end next month - trying to move away from BT altogether)
Also are there any other hidden costs or fees? Fom speaking to their sales advisor he said that this was the only price I would pay.

    Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi, I'm a member of cable forum and digitalspy, basically their websites are all about the media and digital tv, could you give me some more detail about what sky are offering you in terms of a basic package, and with sky sports is that all the sky sports channels or just sky sports 1?

This is what i was offered by their sales service
    Variety Pack + Dual Sports = £36
    Espn ( Free for 3 Months - £9 Thereafter)
    Hd Pack = £10
Total = £46 per month (first 3 months)

    £55 after 3 months
Free sky+ HD box and free install
    240 Free Channels
    FREE MINIDISH
    FREE VIEWING CARD
    £50 M&S VOUCHERS

Unsure if this is the best deal i could get with them. I'm waiting for a phone line to come on line (should be available this weekend) before I purchase. So gives me time to look around.

Hi paul, yeah looking at info I have on deals etc, it seems your getting quite a good deal there, so if I was you I'd go for it. Just so you're
aware from october sky will be changing what hd channels you recieve, this will depend on what tv packs you subscribe to. also sky will charge you extra if it isn't a standard installation.
  • I have just got off the phone from sky (Thurs 29th July 2010) & have reduced my monthly subscription from £68.50 to £34.25 for 6 months!! :j
After reading the tips provided on Money Saving expert about threatening to cancel, I went on uswitch to find out which others providers offered digital tv in my area (purposely to appear like i was genuinely going to leave).
I had no intention of leaving sky as personally, although it can be pricey - you can't get everything with BT Vision (the other provider in my area) or top-up freeview.
I currently have a HD+ system in my living room & Sky+ with multi-room upstairs. My full Tv package was reduced from £48.50 to £24.25 , my HD subscription reduced from £10 to £5.00 & my multi-room subscription from £10 to £5.00 AND IT WAS EASY!!!
I rang sky, got through to cancellations dept, said I was thinking of going to BT Vision as Sky was too expensive & the representative offered me 6mths 1/2 on everything i'd got without hesitation!!:T He then said ; if you are still unhappy, you can change supplier.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU SOUND GENUINE & ARM YOURSELF WITH A FEW FACTS FROM OTHER SERVICES AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA (JUST IN CASE). BUT SERIOUSLY FOLKS, GIVE IT A GO - THIS WAS THE EASIEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. A 5 MINUITE PHONE CALL HAS SAVED ME £205.50!!:D

    Hello Moneysavers,

Wondering if you could help me. I called up this morning to cancel Sky and the chap at the other end asked why, I said it was getting too expensive and that BT Vision were cheaper for what we need.

He just said OK and told me that there is 31 days before my contract ends! No deals or anything! The whole conversation took 4 mins!

I don't care that much but it was a surprise, we pay them £89 a month at the moment which is £1068 in total per year! Someone said that they'll call in the 31 days before the contract finishes but I find that hard to believe, not even sure if I'd go back to be honest...

From my xp I can say that they never offered me a new contract until the old one has run out completly.

Might be worth holding out these 31 days, call again and try to get a deal.

I think everyone gets a deal to some extend, its just a question if its ok for you to stay with sky.
