  • I've been a sky customer for a number of years, i'm paying £38 pm thats for £17 broadband and £21 for sky + tv (4 packs) , i noticed on their website that they are doing a really good deal, which is a much better deal than im on, so i filled in all the boxes of the packages that i want which consists of ; 4 tv packs £21, sky +hd box £10 pm free instalation (online only), talk unlimited, £5 line rental £11 free voice mail free withheld number and free caller display, which adds up to £47, i would be paying an extra £9 but i would no longer be needing my current phone supplier which is costing me £15pm so i would be saving £6 pm and gaining a hd box plus a few extras.
so i filled in my bank details and clicked ok. a while later i had an e-mail saying it was cancelled, so i rang sky asking why they had cancelled my request, they replied it was because i was an existing customer.
so i said i find it terrible that new customers get a much better deal than someone that has been with sky for a number of years, i then asked is there any chance of me getting the same deal or otherwise i will cancel my account which ends in a few days? he said no sorry its only few new customers. I then replied i would be looking around for a better deal with another supplier, which he wasn't bothered about and ask if he could help me with anything else, i replied no thanks and put the phone down.
Has this happened to anyone else?
hi darrell this happened to me so i cancelled sky tv in my name and simply put it in my wifes name ,,,,and it worked as she was a new customer !!!!:j

I thought of doing that, but my only problem would be is that i would have to still use my account to pay the direct debit and ive been told on another forum that sky would suss this and not class my wife as a new user. my sky broadband contract has run out, and i havent found any isp that has as many good reviews as sky even though they do throttle the bandwidth at peak times but not as bad as most of the other top isp's ( my god that hurt saying that) but my tv contract runs out in july and my other problem is i cant get virgin where i am so i got to be careful how i go with calling sky's bluff or ill just end up with free view :rotfl:
  • Hi All,

I have just negotiated a new 12 month contract with Virgin Media and thought it may help others to get a deal if I detail the offer.

Current Services - TV XL V+HD and Multiroom/ Broadband L / Phone Basic

I have been paying £49 per month for the above, going up to £50.24 on 1/4/10.

I phoned through to their cancellations dept and explained that I have been considering a switch to Sky and was immedeately offered a £6 reduction. I refused this, saying that I wanted to cut costs further and asked if there was anything else they could do. I made some noises about taking a Virgin Mobile £15 contract to replace the other half's Sim only deal and after some furhter discussion I was offered £40.24 per month. I was then put through to their Mobile sales team. I listened to some of the offers then declined and ended the call.

I then phoned Sky and explained what services I had, who quoted me a whopping £89.00 which quickly found its way down to £62.00 without much work. I have a feeling they would have gone further had I pressed, but it seemed clear that they would not be able to match Virgin's offer (their broadband is pants anyway)

I called Virgin back and said that I would take the £40.24 offer, only to be told that this was a mistake and that they had forgotten about the multiroom, and that the best they could do was £44.24. I then enquired about Sports and Movies, which they said they could not discount. I then told them that if they would match the original £40.24 offer (but include multiroom) then they had a deal. After a short period on hold I was offered £41.75 a month with an immedeate credit to my account of £21.00

This equates to £40 per month with no change to services, a total saving of £10.24 a month!
I am well happy with this as I have a feeling I was getting a pretty good deal to begin with anyway!

    Good luck!

A friend is currently living in an apartment with a communal sky dish, she will shortly be moving to her own house, what way does Sky treat people on the move, e.g will they try to sting her for an individual dish?

    Any advice, any tips.

There's a moving house charge of £60. Can be negotiated to £30 and then to FOC if out of contract. Sky will come and install a new dish and cabling, as required.

My Sky box has just died (it won't come out of standby) - it is a couple of years old. What is the best way of getting a new one. If I call an engineer will he mend it or give me a refurbished one? Or should I ask for an HD box and weigh the cost of that against the cost of an engineer? I am not really interested in using HD but I gather the box has a larger recording capacity.

    Any advice gratefully received

it tells you how to reset the hard drive, it happened to me a few months ago and it worked for me. You do loose all your programs though.
The other way is to ring up and cancel the account as the box no longer works and persist with cancellation and see what they eventualy offer you
  • Phone Sky and say that your box is not working. They will first of all try to charge you for an engineer to call. Make a fuss by saying that you have been a loyal customer for xx amount of years and its out of order that you are now being charged to have the box repaired. At this point threaten to leave saying as the box is no longer working its not keep having Sky. They will refer you to the Retainers Dept, go through the motions again, BE NICE about it, you may well get the offer of a new HD box for free, plus extras.
