Do what I did a few posts back.
Find some actual figures and calculate the yearly difference - it's also worth remembering that when you switch to a new provider you might get 6 months half price etc - so make sure you work out the correct total using these figures. You could also mention something like you are getting charged more for 4Mb than some who are on 8Mb etc depending on what the current BT deals are.

You might have to repeat your story to one or two different people but it is well worth it - 25 mins on the phone saved me £240 per year. Just let them know you are thinking of leaving because of the costs and that you can get the equivalent services for much cheaper. They will prefer to lose out on £10/15 from you rather than risking you switching and them losing £66
  • I am currently on Virgin Media

    4MB Broadband
    Basic TV
    Telephone

The lady on the phone said I was paying £57 per month in total,

How much do you reckon I can get it down to

is there a site which lists comparisons between all the best sky/bt/virgin deals
  • My sky subs ended last night, and not a single phone call to beg me to come back. Good riddance sky!

What was with the rumours that we wouldnt have to pay monthly for sky+ anymore?
  • Hi

Got a good deal with ntl (virgin) friday night for telephone & broadband, after going through to retentions department.

Talkunlimited 24, 2 mb broadband (fine for what we what), talk mobile discount, talk international discount all for £19.95 permantely + call display for £1.75 = £21.70 per month. Was paying £35 per month, as we were on a bb offer for £9.99 until April, then it would of gone upto £43 per month then.

Asked for this to be confirmed in writing, and so the lady emailed it over to me.

Sky deal, on sunday - FREE Sky + box & installation, however moving from family package to sky movie package of £37.. but I've read on here that Sky may do scapping the £10 for sky+, fingers crossed this happens, then I'll go back to family pack that we were happy on for £21. Still hubby and kids loving the movies especially with kids on school holiday this week :)

  • I'm on the Sky Sports package with sky at £37 pm. I want to get Sky+ but I'm not willing to pay £160 for it. I've tried phoning a few times with the tack of upset with no customer loyalty etc but haven't got anywhere. I've also tried threatening to cancel but I'm tied on for 12 months with Sky Broadband, so they know I can't.

Any suggestions on how to play this? I could always reduce my package to a minimum I guess....

Armed with the article about getting a reduction on sky, I just rung them to cancel my £43 a month package because it was too expensive and they just cancelled it without offering me any kind of reduction. What did I do wrong and how do I tell my family what I've done?
  • Great heads up on the fact the Virgin now have the same bundle as Telewest had but with 50 extra channels. Virgin have made no attempt that I know of to inform original Telewest customers and I was happily sitting on the 39 channels quite happily. After I read the post however, I called them straight away using the freephone 150. Told them a friend had told me that I was entitled to 83 TV channels if I switched to the new Virgin Media Bundle.

I was originally paying £36 for all my services from Telewest (TV, Phone line rental and Broadband 2Mb, Caller display etc.

After phone call now paying £31 per month for the same bundle except now get 83 channels instead of 39, and have free national and local weekend calls.

    RESULT!!! he he he...

    Thanks again to spaluch!!
