Digital TV Cost Cutting Article - Discuss What You've Been Offered

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm moving in the next few weeks and I'm unsure what to do about my Sky subscription.
I really want to upgrade to Sky+ but I don't know if I should sign up as a new customer or contact Sky and haggle for the best deal I can get. I've had Sky for about 4 years and can't change to cable at my new address.
So, to get to the point, can anyone tell me the best deal going at the moment or if there is any truth to the rumours about the 12th February being the start of all the great deals.
Sorry for rambling,

Just rang up Virgin Media cancellations department (via 150). Got straight through which was great as with Telewest there always seemed to be a long wait. Asked them if they could match the 3 for £26 (£37 incl line rental) from sky - 8mb broadband; all tv apart from extra subscription channels; and free weekend and evening calls. Their answer was basically no but sky's service is rubbish (the usual). However, the nice lady did offer me an extra £5.50 discount per month which I gladly accepted
So my media package is:
TV L (essential)
BB M (2Mb)
Phone L (Eve + Weekends)
for £28.50pm :beer:0 -
Hi,everybody.
Since Virgin Media have taken over NTL/Telewest you can now get the basic £30 bundle but with more channels then the original NTL/Telewest £30 package.
The orginal package only gave you 39 channels, the Virgin Media package gives you 83 inculding The Discovery Channel and all the UKTV channels.
If you already have the £30 package just ring virgin media and explain you want to upgrade to there £30 package for more channels. I did it just now and they simply switched the extra channels on for free!
Just ring 0845 454 1111!
Let me know how it goes good luck guys!!!!0 -
I just did the same, now I have tcm which shows all the old movies I like plus loads of extra channels0

All very well Virgin taking over Telewest and NTL, but either way I'm stuck with nothing but Sky and their extortionate pricing.
They evidently know that no cable company supplies my area, so won't budge on pricing..... Surely Virgin must be coming to my town soon!??!0 -
i spoke to sky tonight and told them i wished to cancel as i have been offered a better deal by ntl/virgin and guess what they cancelled me without even flinching couldnt believe it especially when i have been with them for nigh on ten years...they just said there is no deals available and i was lucky on the deal i got last year at 25% for 12 months so they wouldnt be offering me another deal
so now ive no sky after 24th feb
what am i ggoing to do no lost or 24need to have a lightbulb moment0 -
hi
The same happened to me last month lapat, i was a bit surprised after being a loyal customer for so many years.
my months notice ends this saturday...........oh and guess what, they are putting the new lost series on sky one on sunday....typical.
I am hoping that they may write to me and offer me a deal of some sort to return, or i may be tempted to take up a virgin media deal.
Sky will write to you confirming your disconection, my letter states you can return at any time without taking up a new contract.0 -
My Sky ended this week - no last minute offers. My ex left Sky 3 months ago and has just got a letter offering 2 packages for £15 pm. Exactly what she had when she cancelled so no thanks.0
