  • Hi just to let you know this does not always work. I called Sky last night and spent 1 hour and 20 mins trying to get a discount by telling them NTL had contacted me and offered me a deal as I was a loyal customer. They kept offering a full package of TV phone and broadband I kept telling them I was going to cancel. In the end I lost the will to live and just got off the phone asap.
I did however get a £5 credit for the phone call taking so long.
They told me that the discounts they use to offer had been stopped in November and all offers were now on the full package deals.
So good luck to anyone else trying
  • For people cancelling and hoping for a deal from Sky, I can confirm you're going to be disappointed. We Cancelled in November, were switched off in early December. So far we have been contacted by Sky Customer Service once, (in late December), who offered an uninspiring 10% discount for 3 months to "tempt" us back. I declined.

AlanWJones is right in his earlier post. If enough people hold their nerve and cancel then Sky will eventually have to come back with something more substantive. Couple that with the aggressive marketing that NTL appear to be undertaking at the moment, and it shouldn't be long before Rupert Murdoch’s complacency takes a bashing.

Just to reiterate, for anyone wavering on the brink of cancelling but is put off by the drastic reduction in channel choice, the amount of Free to air and Free to view channels available after you stop subscribing will not disappoint. And don't forget, you do not need to buy a Freesat card, the one you already have becomes a Freesat card when you switch off.

Called the 0800 0512595 number this morning and chose Cancellations and then Turnaround from the automated options. Picked that advice up on this board and it seems good - gets you quickly to the people who have the power!

Immediately through to a Sky bloke and told him that I was having problems with my Digibox (standard non + version) and was thinking of giving up and going Freeview. He immediately offered a no-cost service visit or alternatively Sky+ for £49 fully installed. I accepted the £49 and was put on hold for a couple of minutes while he got the discount verified by his manager. Then I paid by Credit Card and I am booked for Sky+ installation on Weds coming. I have to stay for 12 months.

Very easy and quick - whether the fact that I am on the full package makes a difference I don't know but I expected more of a struggle!

Just got off the phone and got the same deal ,I only have 2 of the premium packages though,

So the deals still there on the sky+ box's:D
  • Hi, sorry if this has already been asked but looked back through posts and a bit confused!!!

We are currently on full subs including sky+ and multiroom and looking to reduce cost. In view of comments regarding no deals does anyone know if we cancel completely to just free channels will sky+ still work? and also will
you be able to watch different channels on 2nd box to first? If can do this is there any charge involved?

    Thanks in advance,:rotfl:

Yip similar story for me. I cancelled in October got switched off in November and have been offered 10% discount for 3 months in December and then received a postcard basically saying "come back because Jack Bauer and 24 is starting in January and you'll miss out". So not even an offer this time!!!

They have a cheek and it's about time that we all took a stand, so I agree with you and with AlanWJones too!!!

I agree. I'm switched off from next month. I'm buying the freeview recorder from Asda at £80 which will give me SKY+ functionality without the subscription. I'll miss the odd football match but Summer is coming and I'd rather spend £40+ a month doing real stuff than watching SKY.

Yes you can just have the freesat channels and continue to pay £10 a month for sky+, not sure about the multiroom though.:o

I've been wondering myself what happens to the sky+ box. I don't have one myself, but as I understand it, (and I'm happy to be corrected at any point), to allow you to watch one channel and record another you have twin LNB's, and hence 2 inputs from your sat. dish (thats why it costs £10 extra if you don't have any premium channels). Theoretically, by going Freesat, one would assume it would retain its ability to record but simply revert to two free-to-air/free-to-view feeds. However, I've not seen anyone report that on here and suspect the reality is somewhat different. I'm sure someone will tell us

Regarding multiroom, I believe thats more straight forward. Both cards will become Freesat cards, and should allow you to view all FTA and FTV channels on each box.
