  • I am due to move house very soon & am currently with Telewest for the complete package (including TV(Essential Package), Broadband(8mb) & Phone). I currently pay around £65 a month and after looking into Sky, for a one-off installation fee I could get a similar package but with Sky+ for around £43 a month!

I therefore rang Telewest to cancel my subscription so that I could be ready to setup with Sky once I had moved. Telewest asked why I was cancelling so told them they were too expensive and they ended up offering me their own equivalent of Sky+ for free with no installation charges (which Sky charge £99 for) and upgraded my package all for £38 a month! So now I am staying with Telewest and am glad I rang to cancel as have saved myself quite a bit of money.
  • I dont know how Martin does it. I bought my NTL bill in to try to get a better rate, but hadnt gotten around to it & then the weekly newsletter came in. This is amazing! OH & I called NTL. We currently pay £49.99 for our Family Pack. We couldnt switch to 3 for £30 because we'd lose a bunch of channels (from 130 to 80). However, they did switch our plan to exactly the same thing, except now we get free nights & weekends to anywhere in the UK, for £10 less for 6 months. Not bad.
    Debt & Mortgage free...
  • Phoned today to see what I could get from sky. I told them (truthfully) that NTL have offered me what I currently get from sky for £15 against the £21 I currently pay to sky.

After being put through to numerous departments and being cut off twice I asked to be put through to cancellations. They told me how NTL's channel lineup was much worse but I was able to demonstrate this was untrue as I had the list in front of me. They also claimed NTL's offer was for a limited time (again untrue).

I was told that were currently NO sky subscription discounts available (apart from limited half-price upgrades for sport/movies). After a bit of discussion I was told that there was a sky+ offer for people who have been with sky for over 3 years. This is a sky+ box for half price (£49 instead of £99) and free installation (normally £60). I was told this is not automatically available but only on the discretion of the customer adviser (and in this case she would offer this to me).

I was happy with this as I didn't really want to leave sky and had been considering sky+ anyway. So I got £110 off the price of the upgrade. Of couse I have to pay £10 per month for the sky+ features.

I have just come off the phone to Sky, and got sky+ for £49, really wanted to cancel but was told i can cancel my subs once the sky+ has been installed (on monday :D). They are really trying to get me to take more channels, even though i said i never watch any! Have got half price 2 mix til end of april, from the last time i rang and tried to cancel.

They didnt even try and sell me mulitiroom which makes a change.

As far as I know although I've never had a Sky + box if you stop subscribing the record and playback facility stops working.

The £10 a month pays for the recording feature, but i'll check if i phone back to cancel the subs, that the sky+ will still work.

Btw, i asked how much it would be for 2 premium channels, they said £9, nearly fell off my chair til i was told that was £9 on top of what i already pay, taking the full amount (from april) up to £34 a month. Would've been nice to have movies 1+2 for just £9 a month though:rotfl:

Is it possible to get Sky+ and multiroom without paying extra suscription? I am currently on the Skyworld (top) package although on a half price discount till Feb.

Just spoke to Sky to cancel. I'm currently on the 4 mix at £18 per month. When I rang to cancel all I was offered was a drop to the 2 mix at £15 per month. I told them to go ahead and cancel. Absolutely no incentive given to try and prevent me from leaving. Freeview here we come :D

I called yesterday and the lady tried to keep me by offerring me a lower package for a lower price. Not a discount, just a lower package. I said 'no' she tried offering Broadband and the telephone service, to which I said 'no'. Told her would only consider staying if they could offer at least 3 months at a discounted price.

She spoke to her Manager, but couldn't budge. I ended up going through with the cancellation. She sounded really miserable at the end.

But now I feel a little peeved and when I told my wife and kids I had cancelled they were dissapointed. My wife likes 24 and lost, and the kids like Boomerang, and football.

Shall I wait to see if they come begging? Or phone up with my tail between my legs and say 'Please don't cut me off' (lower my package though). Or go through with the cancellation.

I think I will miss the footie.
