I reckon that Sky will start offering retention offers again in January/February, when a lot of people are short of money and serious about cancelling.

    Hello,

Good reply! No worries as I never thought you were having a dig. You just sounded sceptical over what I found out!

I decided to make another call to Sky to satisfy myself that I have got all my facts right.

I could write a everything in detail but instead I will summarise my phone call of 5 minsutes ago:

    1. NO ONE GETS ANY SUBSCRIPTION DISCOUNTS. NOT EVEN IF YOU SPEND £100 A MONTH ON SKY (I ASKED THEM THIS IN PARTICULAR)

    2. THE SKY CSRs HAVE BEEN BRIEFED (AFTER A 1HR TRAINING SESSION) TO TELL EVERYONE WITH NO EXCEPTIONS THAT THERE WILL BE NO SUBSCRIPTION DISCOUNTS

    3. SKY SAID "THEY ARE PREPARED TO TAKE THE LOSS"

    4. I ASKED THEM HOW THEY INTEND TO RETAIN CUSTOMERS. THEY SAID THEY WILL LET CUSTOMERS KNOW ABOUT SKYTALK AND SKY BROADBAND???

I BEG anyone to please please please call Sky and find out for themselves if the above is the case or not.

This call I just made was excellent becuase the lady I spoke to was brutally honest about the internal policies of Sky.

It does not matter if you think it is bad business sense or "bull" - it really does not matter. Sky have stopped all subscription discounts for existing customers who are threatening to leave. They will call your bluff.

Never doubted you hadnt got your facts right, i just thought that SKY hadnt got theirs right. Quite a bizarre situation, as you have spoken to different person, so i stand corrected.

Well, if its true then i dont think it will last long. Maybe its because they are confident they can generate new viewers because of the holiday season coming up that they have stopped at present, who knows.

Love their current offers, informing about other SKY products... WOW lining Rupert Murdoch's pockets even more, that would really make me stay!!:rotfl:

    Hello again!

The time when you requested disconnection would have been around 30 days ago (as you stated in your previous post), this therefore pre-dates the new rules that Sky are using now so they could have offered a subscription discount back when you requested your disconnection, that is before the new rules came in to force.

    Many thanks,

    Humanoid.

I have just phoned up on behalf of my mother who is on the movies package and said the normal speel about Christmas costing too much and could she reduce to the minimum package and I have just agreed with them six months on her current package at half price.

Guess it depends who answers the phone! (Incidentally I used the freephone number on say no to 0870 and got put through to a customer service advisor from there.)

I can confirm SKY are not offering discounts at the minute as I have just cancelled. I am/was on full package as wel and all they could say is we can give you free broadband, cheap calls and reduce your package down. Lets see if we all cancel how long this game of bluff will go on for!!!!!

I phoned to cancel last week (after 2 previous calls resulted in half price for 3 months each time) and was not offered anything, and informed that my sky will be cancelled on the 6th December. I had a letter confirming this yesterday.
Was thinking of emailing them to ask why some people are still getting offers, but others arnt, its worth a try as we really dont want to cancel, but £43.50 is just too much to pay, especially with christmas coming up!!!! If i hear anything back from them, i will post again!!!!

Same here but I opted to keep the Sky+ facilities at £10 per month so that I get broadband for £10 per month when it's in my area.
That way I get a PVR with twin tuners and broadband for £20 whereas I'm currently paying £22 for broadband alone.

    Thanks for the reply,

Again, I will have to take this on face value as I can not prove either way.

I am surprised that all you needed to do was say christmas costs too much and Sky offered up 6 months half price on the movies? Even when disconnection was not threatened??

Therefore based on your experience I would recommend everyone to call Sky and say, "christmas costs too much" and with little or no effort Sky will give 6 full months of half price!!!! wow!

Interestingly others (Malky, catowen and bob10752000) have all recently posted exactly the same as my findings.....

    Thanks,

    Humanoid.
  • LOL!!!

Sorry Humanoid - I didn't think that you would require a script of the whole conversation!!!

    Thanks Ludds123,

Transcript definitely not required and never hinted at!

My point was that what you achieved seems amazing, and fits in exactly with what your point revolved around.

I might even consider moving up to the top package just to be able to call in and say, "christmas too expensive - please give me 6 months half price. If you do not I will not disconnect".

Seems strange that the same department in Sky has two approaches:

    1. No subscription discounts when disconnection is threatened and

    2. Offering 6 months half price when disconnection is not threatened....

Keep us posted with anymore feedback on your negotiations with Sky please - and any techniques you used to achieve what others failed to in the face of Sky's new policy!!

    Thanks,

    Humanoid.

ps, are you sure that you spoke to Sky and did not dial a wrong number? These things happen.... :)
