I say wait until January, there will be deals around then as loads of people will be cancelling to get the bills down after Xmas. Interesting to see that someone else gets picture break-up when it's windy & rainy, I get this problem as well, does anyone else? Have had SKY out to fix it, (F.O.C.) and it has improved a bit but still happens from time to time, we even get a box on the screen that states "No satellite signal is being received". We have to switch back to analogue viewing then, with the loss of all Sky channels. What worries me is, when we all switch to digital, will the signal be stronger or what??

I finally signed up to Sky+ (currently NTL customer so new to Sky) - offer in my local shopping centre (Braehead, Glasgow) was £49 for Sky+, free installation and the 3 months half price deal.... seeing as I had been considering it at £160 I jumped at it, and it's getting installed this weekend :D
    Shuffle up and deal!

Not exactly the same situation, but I cancelled our subscription to Sky Movies by email, they did it straight away and we've never had any calls or communication from Sky asking us to consider getting it back again.

Good to know these things can be done by email, it beats waiting 40 minutes in a queue! I thought you had to phone up for any amendment to package.
  • Hi,

I had Sky for 4 years until April this year, then sold my house, cancelled sky and went round the world... well, now i'm back and thinking of signing up to Sky again (though taking a career break is definitely worth it if anyone is considering it!).

My question - given i've moved house and ended by subscription 6 months ago, can i now sign up as a new subscriber to get a special deal or will the Sky Big Brother Computer realise it's me even though i've moved house (and that i've been away for 6 months).

So, do i try signing up as a new subscriber OR do i just put it in Mr Jane889's name?

Also - do you get the best deals generally by phoning them up or going into Currys etc?

    Any advice?

    Thanks

They won't know who you are so absolutely sign up as a new subscriber and take advantage of the excellent offers. Get someone to recommend you and they get free SKY+ box. I moved house, used the same name and subscribed as a new customer within a week of cancelling and there was no problem. The local shop who sold me the package told me they have no way of tracing you!

Not sure where to go for the best deal but just compare it to the post above where the guy got SKY+ for £49 plus 3 months half price. If you don't want SKY+ then you'll get the ordinary box for free with free install and some deal on a package. Everyone's saying they doing a drive for xmas to get new customers so you might get a really good deal.

    Happy SKY shopping!

only thing is unless i'm mistaken you have to have a 12 month contract as a new customer?
  • my simple solution to cutting cost for SKY. My bills were around £38 a month for whatever !! We particularly wanted Sky Sports (Well I wanted cos I like football) then there were others . Anyway I phoned SKY and asked them was there a better deal, the young lady did her best but the figures were still "mortgage like" , comparitively speaking . Now heres what I decided . Scrap it all except for £10 a month stuff. On Saturdays or Sundays check with a pub doing football what games the're showing and, IF i like them, pop in at the right time sit down with a Guiness or two or whatever is your favourite , in a great environment . £5 . And the bonus if my team wins, a big smile, and if they lose just think about the £216 a year saved.
  • Hello all,

This is my first post so please forgive me if I am covering old ground.

Yesterday I called Sky to cancel (as I am currently out of contract) and the following points were made:

    1. Sky told me that as of two weeks ago they stopped any kind of package reduction deals. They are getting tough!

    2. They said it was costing Sky £14m (not sure if this is per month or year).

    3. Sky said they are fully aware of what is discussed on forums like this one and know exactly what people are up to! Therefore they will call your bluff and disconnect you (which is exacly what they are doing to me). The Sky representative also said that you would not try this in a supermarket!

    4. However, they are only prepared to offer a discount on the equipment now. I was offered a Sky+ box for £49 including installation BUT I would need to pay full price for all the channel packages. I must admit that I am on the most basic package and if I was in their shoes it would make better sense to retain a full package customer over me! But still worth a try :)

It looks like it is going to be a Sky free christmas for me this year but I have a feeling that come the new year Sky might be slightly more interested in doing a deal.
