A couple of people on the Sky deals thread have been told by Sky that they have suspended all their discounted deals while they concentrate on their Christmas promotions. They seem quite confident that most folk aren't seriously thinking of cancelling this close to Xmas, and they will quickly be replaced by new subscribers
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • I've currently got 2 sky+ with movies @ £47.00 per month, gave sky a call on friday to see if they would do me a deal, all they would offer was the drop the package down to the base package with no other offers available.

Cancelled it, guess i'll just have to wait and see if i can get a reconnection deal once its gone i suppose. Ho Hum... Freeview here i come....
  • I'm curently with Telewest, paying £62 for Essential TV, Telephone and 2meg roadband and Sky movies. I'm moving next month and will probably stick with Telewest but will be looking to reduce the package to Basic TV, phone and 2meg broadband.

I'm prepared to haggle and threaten to cancel if need be to get a new deal.

    Does anybody know:

    1. Am I likely to be able to get free installation?

    2. Am I likely to be able to score their 3 for £30 bundle as an existing customer?

    3. Off-topic, but does anyone know if it's possible to get British Eurosport without having to sign up to a higher level of service? I don't want to end up paying for channels I'm NEVER going to watch. We've also considered going for a freeview box of some sort, but I don't think you can get Eurosport for free any more. The new house also has a satellite dish already so I suppose some kind of hybrid set up might be possible: Frankly I find all the options extremely confusing. Hopefully somebody can enlighten me!!

    Many thanks

I decided today to call Sky about getting rid of the Movies package - I've seen all I want to on current rotation, the next month's don't look too good, and if I can move downwards from £37 pm I can join a DVD rental scheme!

I rang the number suggested in a previous post - 0800 0512595 - and this worked fine (though I was asked where I'd got number from).

I was assured that the 5 movies I'd recorded on Sky+ would still work (which went contrary to other information I've seen), but I questioned this and had it confirmed, so made the change immediately rather than waiting to see them.

The removal of channels took place this afternoon, and first thing I did was to check the recorded films. Wouldn't work.

Rang back again, was told the non-availability was correct and that even if I reinstated Movies package they would be wiped (unsure about this part!). So, I said that I'd have to hire them out now, so at £3 a pop they should give me £15. They initially offered £5, and then raised this to £10.

Yep, I know, hardly a stunning victory (and no-one offered to give me a deal for six months or whatever), but shows it's worth challenging them!
  • As previously mentioned on this thread, The cancellation folk do not have access to any normal subscription offers anymore.

Your only hope is that their re-instate department will give you a decent offer.

Also remember, if you have ever been a sky customer - sky WILL have your details and you will not get a free box / installation as a matter of course. If you do, then consider it a good offer.

FYI - I think the offer for sign up for new customers over the Christmas period is 6 months half price.

I called them today, got through to customer services after a 20 min wait, but it was on the 0800 number so who cared :).

Anyway, told him I was looking to reduce my monthly spend, with a view of cancelling if I couldnt. The CS chap said that as I was a long time customer on the £40.50 G2 package (Sky Sports and movies2) that he could offer me a 50% discount for 3 months.

I then asked to cancel my second box, so he put me through to cancellations who were suprised that he had offered me the 50% deal as they were not allowed to at the moment.

Though the cancellation guy did say that call back in Jan and they should have some good deals then.

    Result.

Can anybody help me? Basically, about two months ago my friend got free Sky + box, free installation and a good deal on a package for six months. This set me on a mission to get free sky plus myself. At my first attempt I got offered it for £49 all in (which I now WISH WISH WISH I'd accepted)! At my second attempt I got no sky + offers but some attractive package discount offers (I'm on the full package and have been for five + years). I still held out. At my third attempt I have seen through the cancellation and I am due to lose my sky subscribed services on 7/11. I was expecting to have heard from them by now as I really DON'T want to lose my movies and sports - but somebody told me that if I really 'appeared' to go through with the cancellation I'd stand a good chance of getting a good offer of some sort, preferrably a sky + deal. Do you reckon it's worth holding out and waiting for a week or two AFTER my cancellation to see if I get a call from their 'reinstate' team or equivalent?
  • Also - I meant to ask? Has anyone ever considered asking to pay their sky plus bill (I mean the box and installation price) over 3 or 6 months with their normal sky direct debit? Is this something Sky consider at all?
