Saint - Unfortunately you will have to call their bluff, you have to tell them you are cancelling your subscription (just tell them you can't afford it anymore, it's getting too expensive etc. - but don't let them talk you into just reducing your package to save money - you have to go the whole hog!) they may offer you a deal there and then to keep your custom, but if they don't and they go ahead with the cancellation (as they did with me) don't panic. You will have to accept you will be without the pay per view channels for a couple of weeks but Sky will be back in touch one way or another - trust me!0

This is exactly what we did an ended up disconnected. They called back within a week offering free Sky+ (refurb Pace PVR2, 3mths warranty) and half price for six months on full package + movies. So we're now paying less than before for a better package. Super!
Andy^^^^^^^^^^^ this is just my opinion, no promises or guarantees that it is correct0 -
I have the sky box with top package and am moving soon. I called and asked what was the best the could do me for sky+ as i was moving etc.....got offered the sky+ for £49........
Told them not good enough so disconnect me etc....as friends family etc have have been offered better deals and also OH has never had sky so would get OH to order it once we move and get a deal that way......then told that if i sign for the £49 deal i could ring back another time and get a deal on my package.....again i said disconnect me as i knew that once i left i would get a sky offer with refurb box etc and money off...was then told and dont know how true this is that the refurb boxes are the 20 hour ones (new ones now are just the 40 hour) and also there is not that many left.....i said fine not to worry still disconnect me......
Then i was put on hold as operater asked if she could speak to her manager....said fine......manager then came on the line said best he could do was still the sky+ box offer at £49 i said fine disconnect me as your then giving up £43.50 a month plus also losing sky b/band from me as i have an activation code for that and had been with sky for many years, plus moving not cheap etc.....
Then i got the offer which i agreed on....which was Brand new sky+ (40 hour one) for £49 all the fittings cable dish etc for free, 1 year warrenty...plus 25% of my monthly package for the next 12 months......
was on the phone for about half an hour to get to that stage.....real tip to anyone is just hold out for what you want....in my own mind i wanted the sky+ plus 6 months half price so by taking the 12 month option was the same as.....also will say i think it helps who u get on the phone....i had tried 2 nights earlier and the operator i got then would not budge from the £49 offer not even going to get a manager (if it matters that was a male operator) yet 2 nights later i got the above offer (female operator male manager)
hope that helps anyone.........0 -
We called last night asking to cancel saying we were going over to ntl for their tv on demand. The best offer we had from cancellations was £49 for the sky+ box, plus £30 installation and no offer on the packages. They wouldnt move on that so we said go ahead and cancel then, which they did and gave us a date in November when it will cut off from.
We will just have to wait and see if they come back to us with a better offer.

Called SKY last night. Was paying the full package cost £43.50 per month. Said I wanted to cancel so was put through to the "cancellations" dept. Once I said I wanted to go ahead and cancel they asked me why. I told them couldn't justify that much a month. Straight away they offered me 25% off for a year. They then asked which channels I didn't watch and I ended up getting rid of the kids channels which cut another couple of pounds off. Ended up no paying £30 a month for a year.0

Hi all - first post and I would like to share with you all to see how MSE has saved me money in the space of one hour and two phone calls !! If you subscribe to SKY or AOL this may save you a bit of cash !!
Over the next 12 months I will have saved £246.98 because of this site !!
Call One -
I rang SKY and this is what happened !!
Have been a customer for nearly 6 years on the top package and explained that I had been made a better offer. Chap needed a few minutes and came back to me and offered me a 25% discount for the next 12 months.
Total Saving - £130.50
Call Two -
Rang AOL knowing full well that our first 12 month contract for AOL Broadband silver is up for renewal. Explained that I had been made a better offer and what could they do.
Lady came back offering us AOL Silver at £9.99 per month indefinitely (unless it gets cheaper) and credited us with a free month too.
Total Saving - £116.48
I do realise that to be a true money saver I should have taken up SKY broadband (it's free!) and cancelled AOL but I see this as more of 'keep what you've got but pay less for it' exercise.
I must say that I was incredibly polite but firm with my calls and both times I found that the staff were not only very courteous but seemed pleased that they kept my business with a small incentive. Isn't this how business should be ?
£246.98 back in MY pocket and I'm just off to get my bank charges back !!!Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
Am about to cancel sky and would like to know if there is a freephone number anymore, remember a while back using one for the disney channel and pressing 1, but also remember a change in that too....could someone refresh my memory please?0

Hi there, can I pick some of your wonderful brains please?
We are currently paying £30.50 pm for telephone, £17.99 pm for broadband and £28.00 for sky. We can not get telewest, or freeview and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to reduce these. I'm pig sick about the telewest as £30 pm for the lot would have been brilliant. Many thanks in advance. If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape 100 days of sorrow.......Chinese proverb

Sky are/will be doing cheap/free broadband as long as you pay about £15 or more for any tv subsciption package. They also do Skytalk for free/cheap calls, but you would probably be better off using 1899.com for landline calls and "cheapchat" (dial 08445991348 then mobile number) for mobiles, you still pay line rental to BT though.
Best to check on the broadband board, and the telephones board for more complete details.0
