I was wondering about the being reliable bit....I have so far only canvassed around 40 houses but will be doing a lot more on this campaign...so far I have put books through with a note of when to leave them out, then if they havn't left them I have put another note through to say when I will be back to try to get some more back, but I havn't knocked on any doors :o

I am just wondering if perhaps some people might not put an order out and might be expecting me to knock? what do you think?

I always knock if it isn't out - I know it is daunting at 1st, but Ive found if you can be chatty with them they tend to place an order!
Ive also had quite a few not put there book out as they dont want to leave an order outside!

I alway try to call back when I say I will so people can see that I am reliable & a few customers have reconmended me so I have picked up new customers along they way, but this month me & my 3 kids have all had the flu so I am a week behind!

Going to have a bad month I feel, all my orders have been low so far & alot of regulars have not placed orders - oh well gotta have a bad one sometime!

I knock if it isnt left out. Was petrified at first but usually just knock and get ready to say "Hi, ive just come for the Avon Book i popped through" really informally with a big smile , I then always just ask if they'd like the next one when they hand it back or whatever and say "ok no problem" no matter what they answer! LOL End of the day worst they are gonna do is be rude to you.. and people like that you just dont bother with again. :)

I cant believe im gonna admit to this as its quite sad... but the way i thought about it was that for every book i lost i was losing at LEAST 10p of my money AND the chance of getting an order from that book next time i used it so possibly even more money... soon motivated me to knock on doors for them! :)

it's all automated (conveyor belt) so it's the machine's that need seeing to!

When I worked somewhere like that, the boxes would go around on the conveyor stopping at each 'station' where the items from that particular area of the warehouse would be picked and packed and the box sent on its way to the next one.

My Husband has actually worked at AVON Corby, doing some servicing, he said the magnitude of it was amazing! The sheer quantity of boxes, all flying round & items flying down shutes into the boxes - no wonder it goes wrong! He said the was the occasional packer there but not many!
Its a shame, since I have started AVON he has had no call outs there as he was allowed into the factory shop!

I really do think being reliable and word of mouth does work for picking up customers.. ive been doing it a year on October 13th and am finding now my regulars are tending to reccommend me and showing the book to family/friends.

Thats the second customer in the last couple of campaigns ive picked up from their last rep being unreliable too.... the last lady placed a £41 order with me!!:eek::eek: A rep had put a catalogue through her door but never came back for it.......!

Her daughter works in the local newsagent where the staff all take books and i get big orders from them regulary ... come to think of it i got them as customers by my mum calling in and asking could she put one my advertising postcards up in their window and one of them asked if it was at all possible for me to get an item for her and leave a book too as their last rep had never came back either, and now few months on all the staff order from me! :D

Thanks Johanne for a really positive post - we all seem to have got really negative lately (not getting at anyone - I'm as guilty as the next person of having a moan).

It must be really daunting for the newbies on here to keep reading of all the problems  Whilst I feel really sorry for everyone who has had a problem, to balance that most of my orders have been on time and largely correct. Of course there is the odd 'blip', like 3 'Sunshine' nail varnishes instead of 3 Midnight Plum........close :p.......but on the whole I don't have too many problems. I seem to average £350 to £400 each time these days (from a drop of around 120 books), so I don't have too much to complain about - if I had, I doubt I'd have stuck at it for 2 years :D

    Hi,

I am in need of some help. I've been a trainee Sales leader now for a month but still have no reps under me.

My up liner sent me two names of ladies who had shown an interest both end up as time wasters.

She has advised me to join Flissy....i've had two free wks on the site and logged on loads but no leads anywhere near to me.

My upliner did have some leads but they where two hours away and I felt this was too far. I wanbt to be able to offer my team time and support.

My local paper have quoted a silly amount for one night small ad.
I've put out flyers in local area and ads in some nearby supermarkets but had no come back.

What should I do now beginning to feel really down and wondering whether it will be worth it.

    Thanks

I have to say flissys has been slow for leads in my area lately - but earlier in the year there were loads - I think leading up to christmas there will start to be more again - most of the reps on my team have been a result of leads bought on there - yes not all of them pan out, or the reps go to debt or change their mind, but had some really good reps as a result of some of them, plus the support and advice you get on there is well worth the £12 a year in my opinion.

Definately do expired brochure drops - save all your brochures, make your own leaflets or buy avons, and ask area managers (either the one for your area, or nearby ones) if they can give you vacant areas to prospect - then deliver your expired brochures there (saves upsetting any reps), deliver leaflets, and even knock on doors asking if people are interested. Definately get yourself an official avon website set up - they are still free at the moment, and if you include your website on your expired brochures etc you might well get more leads, as people like to be able to contact through the internet rather than having to ring you. Also - get some free business cards from visaprint (only paying for p&p) and start leaving them in various places - ladies loos in supermarkets etc, wherever you can!
Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A

  • ok can someone please explain to me the 'commission' side of things from HT and the brochure. -i know its not commission but you know what i mean..the money making side of things)
I thought whatever you buy from HT was just paid for full HT price but anything from there is also added to your total so when you reach your HOV/LOV you either get 25%/20% of the brochure orders... right?

Im thinking im getting something wrong. eg someone earlier said about ordering bond girl for a customer for £16 from HT instead of from the brochure...how would she make more money that way? surely if she orders from HT she doesnt make anything for herself?
    V confused

also...One of my customers wants to send back a perfume as it doesnt spray properly. she wants a replacement...My delivery is due this monday and i have things to send back too so if i add replacements online now do i add the perfume to the same 'credits' box to send back or do it separately?

    Hi phia2000

As Avon Representatives, we earn discount on orders from earnings over MOV and HOV. You are correct, we pay the discounted price in HT and this is added to our order value to qualify for MOV and HOV.

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy something from HT and charge the customer the full price, rather than ordering from the Book, the discount you get may not be as much.

I do this if I want to offer my customer a discount on their order, this way I am not actually out of pocket when I offer them the discount, as they are paying the lower price on an item, and they think they are getting a discount. Does this make sense?

You can send back all items with the courier, in the same box or envelope, even if they are for credits or replacements.
