Looks like a pretty good deal to me. Older chip but dual core 2.13Ghz, and 4Gb RAM which is expandable to 8Gb (I wouldn't buy anything that wasn't expandable to at least 8Gb). 500Gb is a decent size hard-drive and it's got plenty of connections with 3 USB, HDMI and VGA, not to mention bluetooth. Oh, and a better webcam than most cheap models offer. Plus Dabs offer a 3yr warranty extension for under £60. 2.02% cashback through TopCashBack. Got to admit I'm very tempted myself...

  • Both my teenagers want a laptop for Christmas and to avoid fights/taking turns it is the preferred option to get them one apiece!

The Fujitsu at a little under £300 looks a real possibility but would it be worthwhile spending another £50 to get a better machine capable of handling the various games? One is into the Age of Empires type game while the other would be a Football Manager fan? Maybe the Fujitsu could handle these anyway?

Would they offer a discount for buying 2 I wonder!!!?

I am in same boat a you - two laptops to buy - had found a toshiba on argos clearance and posted it on grabbit here but apparently not up to the job!
Would love to get both for £500 ..... i have girls who probably wont play that many games -just facebook and microsoft office. And one of them has a photo obsession!

eta - few options here but i am at a loss which is right and wrong - also which brand!! http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Argos-Outlet/Laptops-netbooks-/_i.html?rt=nc&_fsub=1683056016&_sid=66512606&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1581&_pgn=2

  • Hi

I've posted elsewhere, but think this is where I should have been, if you get what I mean!!

I want a fairly basic laptop , 15' screen, wireless (n if possible), dvd drive , but especially, DECENT speakers. I want it for surfing and watching tv, so it has to be audible and not tinny! I don't want to use external speakers.

I've just tried a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 and its going straight back - the sound quality is so poor it was unlistenable.

I'm not bothered about a huge hard drive or separate graphics card or web cam or bells and whistles. All the extra manufacturers software will come straight off it anyway, so that's not important for me, although running Windows 7 is a must.

It does have to come in below £350, preferable below£300 and be of reasonably sturdy quality, and not break down in 6 months time.

Any ideas? Is it a good time to grab one now or wait until after Xmas - do people even HAVE January sales anymore?
    Thanks

They don't make 'em like they used to....

For the price, this MSI CR630-050UK with a BluRay drive is ok for £230, Only £11 to take the RAM to 4GB. But.....

Also, a lot of the new, low priced ACER laptops have a single mono speaker.

I guess you'll need to take yourself to a shop and have a listen for yourself.

Linked to the MSI above. Only £11 for another 2GB RAM. So £231 for 4GB and that spec is not too bad. Probably not great on battery life.

not that bothered about battery life as only for use at home. Where do I get the RAM ? Although for what its for (internet and word processing) would 2GB not be plenty?
