What do you huys think about buying second-hand, like ebay, or reconditioned, like dell? I've been told it's a savvy way of getting something decent at a reasonable price but am worried about getting stuck with someone elses problems...

I've brought 2 * Dell E4300 off ebay and (for more than the £350 limit a Lenovo Thinkpad x201)

You just have to hold your nerve, know what you want (and don't want) and not go above your limit

  • Hi I want to buy a laptop but it is all pretty mind boggling so wondered if anyone can help me

I am happy to pay about 400 pounds but above 500 would be too expensive

I want it to do everything of course, but particularly I don't want it to be too heavy and I'd like it to have a good battery life. I don't really like touchpads at all (the usual Dell ones) so wondr if I can get an alternative

I want to be able to do most things online including perhaps watching the odd stream but I don't need great graphics as I don't play games

I was thinking of Dell and looking at their website at the Inspiron 15 but it has terrible reviews on there saying it is 'plasticy', other reviews saying it is difficult to configure a mouse and that the touchpad causes problems.

I want a decent level of storage as I have a lot of music I'd probably want to store on there, and would like to be able to play music to a decent level through it (although I could buy speakers I suppose)

Can anyone help and recommend anything>?

    Many thanks

    Matthew

Might be too late for this https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Samsung_Q330_1048113.html
£400 ****Use code WOW-1 for this price****

Good battery life but screen is slightly small (may mean its lightweight? EDIT: yes its only 2KG)

EDIT: code (above) is still working today, Wednesday. But will close soon (today or tomorrow).

Both 3GB memory and 320GB hard drive, all I want is a laptop that is going to last, be able to access wifi easily (ie no complex set up) and to run microsoft office on (already have, as bought student version for main computer). Or any alternatives I have missed, but did not want to pay more than approximately £300 and basically it is to be a second computer in the house to save disagreements about who is hogging the main computer (it will be for homework primarily not for playing games).

Thanks for any advice/pointers as a complete novice with regard to computers but I thought these looked good value.

Just noticed this one on ebay but it is £350 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-5532-Windows-7-Laptop-Laptops-New-/290492330982?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item43a2b133e6 but just not sure about which make(s) are better.
