Toshiba C660 CPU benchmark 892
MSI Wind U230 benchmark 861
These are both sluggish laptops. Not sure your friend will be still a friend if you buy one of these. Sorry.
EDIT: If I had to chose, I'd have the Toshiba (bigger screen) and I'd add more RAM.0 -
Indeed, the current Tesco offers seem more better for similar money.0

Hi All
I'm looking for a laptop with a full keypad, around the £350 mark but willing to pay a bit more if needed. Any recommendations from the range that Tesco are currently offering? My MiL works at Tesco, so should be some there at some keen prices with her extra 10% off.0 -
Is this one from Tesco any good: http://direct.tesco.com/product/default.aspx?R=210-4286 It's the Toshiba C660-195 with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive. Only 2 USB and no fire wire. My budget is up to £350, so can I get a better deal by spending more? It's on at £303... I don't want to spend up to my limit if I don't have to!0

Sorry for late reply. The Toshiba C660-195 CPU is not bad for the £300 price mark - CPU benchmark score 1502
The following eMachines has an Intel Core i3 -370m (2.4GHz) which scores much higher - 2228
RAM and hard disk are smaller but are both upgradeable in the future. The CPU cannot be upgraded.
This is sold by Sainsburys here -> http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/sol/shop/technology/computing/laptops_and_netbooks/120987532_emachines_e732z_eme732372g25mnkk_core_i3_2gb250gb_156_laptop.html
NB1. Sainsburys sale may end today?
NB2. I have seen some comments that eMachines (Acer?) may not be as reliable as other brands (including Toshiba) but I pass no comment on this!0 -

Well it's over £60 more than the Compaq 103sa for a bit larger hdd - irrelevant if you back-up - and 2gb more ram , about £20, if you think it's essential.0 -
Thanks spakker. Linky :- http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.210-3736.aspx
Also includes non-trial Word and Exel (slimmed down versions with adverts)
Of-course whether this can be called "powerful" is another question but with a CPU benchmark score of 1,502 its definately a good deal.0 -
Tesco Direct have got some really good deals on ACER laptops that are worth looking at. Sorry can't post a link as not allowed but have a search for them & for the more daring then why not try the Ferrari Red
