Very hot deal. i3 laptop with 3 year warranty £300.
Voucher for 3 year warranty is WTYFREE

On the 3-year Warranty info page it says normal wear and tear is excluded. How would they quantify that? Is that normal terminology?

There are 2 i3 laptops above; the Play one is £330 and the 3 year warranty one is £300 (deal until 10am Monday morning). The latter one is raising questions about the difficulty of claiming £100 cashback and the effectiveness of the warranty.
• I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to electronics. It's quit ironic, since I spend most of my time at work behind a computer and am on facebook all day long. I've never really had the need for a USB stick, but I came across this one and was wondering if it's a good deal and is it what I need. I want to make a backup of my pics and some documents. Would a 4GB stick like this be any good for that purpose, or would I need a larger one? Sorry if it sounds stupid:S

I am not permited to add links yet, so I'll try it like this. www .couponmonster .co.uk/promotions/promotion/playcom-usb-stick-e649

You should have posted in the main forum, but a 4GB will be fine, assuming you don't have more than 4GB of pics/docs. Or this.
• It's someone in the families’ birthday soon and in each chipping in we've probably got ~£450 together to put towards a laptop.

My thoughts in browsing the thread was to get the samsung from play @ £329 (see above) and then maybe purchase an extra years warranty from ebuyer ~£99 with it being a present.

I am however doubting the idea of buying additional warranty, in the past i got caught out on a high spec acer (>£800) after just over a year and hence why i am thinking about doing this.

If I decided not to I would have an extra £100 to go towards the laptop but being something that would be used for general browsing and a bit of entertainment by the kids is it really worth doing this!?

I don't know whether any 1 make is more reliable than any other but Toshiba do good value warranty extensions. http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/services/warranty-extension/#
I've got a budget Toshiba and its fine so far (touch wood). What will the family member use the laptop for? e.g. connect to TV; games;... I'll have a look (not much around at the moment; apart from Dell refurbs but I guess that would be an insult)
• It'll pretty much just end up being a replacement for his family desktop, used by them all for general dogs body stuff but would never really be pushed in anyway I wouldn't have thought!?

The Toshiba warranties are certainly an eye opener with regard to value though so thanks for that. Anything that catches your eye I'd be grateful to hear - in seeing the 3yr@~£50 I would be happy to go above the £350/400 mark if a worth while Toshiba.

Thanks

"Best" Toshiba is something like this (general good all-rounder but nothing stunning). Argos Here's the full specs (with Compatible Services tab to show extra warranty cost). Toshiba website

Or
This Acer is almost identical but £100 cheaper. 1 year warranty. Has HDMI, better webcam. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190509775512#ht_4366wt_1139

Or this Toshiba also from Argos. This has a very good CPU, but average(*) everything else (like the Play.com Samsung). I don't know what the exact model number of this is but its got a free 2 year warranty. (Think this is model C660-1F1 - you cannot get a 3rd year warranty on this.)

(*) by average I mean disk, memory, graphics are all average. The webcam on these Toshibas is best described as basic.
• the two most important things to look for is the processor and the memory, the hard drive and battery life are just bonuses

i found these 2 which might intrest you the first is a hp with pentium dual core 3gb ram 320gb hard drive and windows 7 for £350

go to comet website and type in 676446 in there search bar

the second if your willing to go to £400 is an asus with the I3 processor (v.good) 3gb ram 320gb hard drive and win 7 for £400

go to comet website and type in 698903 in there search bar

hope these help
