    Hello there,

My partner & I each bought an Acer 5735 last week from PC World in Tottenham Court Road
    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0299259160.1231174981@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgadegedkddhjcflgceggdhhmdfhj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=904249&category_oid=

We sadly did not get any freebies buying 2 machines at a time but the laptop is cheap enough I guess

So far so good but I need help with the warranty extension.
I recall finding on this forum a link to an official Acer website which sold warranties only (no laptops) but I cannot seem to find it anymore.

Anyone knows or recommends a website to buy an extended warranty for our new laptops? PCW is selling the 3-year guarantee for £169 while I recall it being for £45 on this website.

Also, would there be any problem buying the warranty separately from the laptop?

    Thanks for your help!
  • Hi people,

Dell outlet this morning launched their first offer since before Christmas of £55 off all Inspirons and free delivery, making for a total saving of £74.99! I know it's just over the £400 threshold but I just bought a Studio 1537 with a Core 2 Duo running at 2ghz, 3 gig of RAM and a 250 gig hard drive for £418 including VAT and delivery. Will keep you posted with its performance once it arrives.

Last summer I bought the sony vaio NR32M for around £400. dual Intel, 200/ 2048 with vista premium.

Now I want to get a similar model and the nearest equivalent is NS20ES. This is more powerful (2.16GHz, 3 RAM and 250 HDD) but more expensive.

Anyone know where I can get a lower spec Sony vaio?

(Sibling rivalry dictates it needs to be the vaio.)

    Hi Everyone,

Can anyone help, im in need of a new Laptop as my old one died but am a bit of a novice when it comes to computer speak so be gentle with me. I am looking to spend around the £300ish mark and from reading peoples posts I think I require the following features,
    • Core 2 Duo Processor (I believe its better than Dual Core)
    • 3GB Memory
    • 250GB Hard Drive
    • 15.4 Inch wide screen
    • Wireless Enabled
    • DVD Re Write (And possibly labeling)
As for the make i am totally at a loss which one to try and go for / avoid, so if there are any suggestions i would be grateful, Toshiba, HP, Sony & Fujitsu are what i was thinking. I want the laptop to have fast internat connection (Currently i have 8meg) and have enough memory for Itunes, movie watching, gaming and all your usual officer work i.e. Word and Spread sheets etc.

Can anyone suggest a good site, make and spec if possibe. Sorry to waffle and thanks for the help.

P.s not bothered if it's a refurbed one.

  • Hi Everyone again,

Thanks for the advice, i managed to buy myself a laptop in the end on the off chance while browsing in store at Comet,

    It's details are as follows;
    • Toshiba Sate P300D-21K: Brand new, 12 months manufacturer's warranty - (£350 Total)
17" WideScreen, AMD Turion x2 Dual Core TL60, Processor speed: 2.0GHz, Processor Bus: 1600MB, Processsor Cache: 1024 MB, RAM: 3072, Hard Drive: 200GB, Hard Drive Type: SATA, Windows Home Vista, Shared Graphics: ATI RadeonX1250 831 MB, Wireless Enabled, Built in WebCam, USB 2.0 Slots: 4, Speakers: HarmonKardon, Battery: 2.5 Hrs, Weight 3.2Kg.

I thought this seemed to be a good buy for the spec especially with the 17Inch screen and plus it's it's god looking?, was i right???, if so i believe they have been reducted from £550 for a very limited time and are due to go back up within a week or so. I didn't have time to go through a cash back site as mine was the last one of 25 and they only came in yesterday, it may well be worth looking if they are available through a cashback site to shave a little more off the price (Topcash back it's currently 4% for Comet, if you do use this site and are not signed up give post your email and i will send you the referal link which i get £2.50 for.......Thanks)

Also try to haggle a little, the manager at my store was very stubborn and gave me nothing more off due to the spec and price.

Do bare in mind this Laptop comes with no case or Microsoft Office such as Word.

Sounds pretty reasonable doozer....a lot of people will say the AMD dual-core is inferior to an Intel, but to be honest, youwouldn't really notice any difference unless you were running mega-resource hungry progs...so yeah, you did okay there ;)

  • For those who have been advised by COMET staff all have been sold - it is correct however, I purchased one for my mother ysterday.
As long as you pay in full for the laptop in store they will order one for you & lock in @ the current sale price as been advertised on TV over Easter.
We were advised new bulk stock were being delivered straight from Toshiba in 5-8 weeks.

So we have reserved one & they will contact us when it will arrive in store to be collected.

For those who still want this laptop as a bargain - get to your local store now as were advised when new stock arrives it maybe back @ its original price @ £499.99.
