  • Just want a laptop for my daughter - was told to try and get ICR2-2000 Processor, HD - 250GB, RAM 3000, would it matter if I got one with lower numbers - as haven't got a clue what they all mean lol

  • 2GB of ram in the 1525 will probably be suffice for normal usage.

Obviously the 1535 is a better spec'd machine so will cost more.

I am looking for a laptop around the £300-350 mark for a friends, wanting something around a 2.0GHz intel c2d, 2-3gig of ram and 15 inch screen. I liked the look of the Dell from Tesco but it is out of stock.

They are also looking for a built in webcam and mic as they will use it for Skype with family.

    Thanks.

Thanks for previous help. Another query! I notice with the £350 price range you either get lots of RAM or a higher processor speed but not both, as in the ACER examples given a few posts above. So what's going to be best at dealing with graphics like photos and video - 3GB & 1.86Ghz or 2GB and 2.2Ghz. I realise the RAM is easily upgraded if the computer is upgradeable.

Oh and what's the dif between a dual core processor and an intel core 2 duo? sounds like it should be the same.
    Thanks for any advice.

They're not the same, but without going into the technical side, Core 2 duo is better.

  • Any advice would be most greatly appreciated!

We need a laptop for our business, it will be mostly used for admin (invoices, wp, sage accounting software) but we also need to take it to shows that we attend and therefore it needs a big screen (we allow customers to browse our website and make orders), therefore it needs to be quick. It will be used in both wi-fi areas and also non (so will need modem cable?).

Eventually it may become part of a network, but initially it's just to take the place of home p.c's that we currently use.

Other than that, I'm not too hot on the technical jargon so please be kind!

Budget-wise we are looking at £500 max.

Can anyone recommend anything specific, and what extras would we need to purchase?

    Thanks!

There are plenty of good deals about just now. What I would say is that you make sure your new laptop has Windows XP operating system on it, not Vista. Sage does not like Vista and you may have trouble with it

I am looking for a laptop for my friend who wants to spend up to £300 - any suggestions ? Was hoping to get at least 1.8GHz 1Gb Ram and 120Gb hard drive with webcam built in.

I have not been sure if to consider Acer, Advent or now eMachines as not sure of their repuations

This compaq from comet would seem reasonable and maybe could be cheaper if anyone knows of a discount code that could be use for it ?
