Donnie any thoughts on the toshiba 17in L670-10n? unsure of the processor? looking for a 17in. This is also on argos ebay site.

Depends on the tasks for which you intend to use it. Certainly not for a heavy gamer. Good as a general purpose laptop. I think it's good enough.

    Specifications here.
  • Hi I'm a bit of a technophobe but have been looking at the Argos returns on ebay and wonder if someone can advise me about http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350404658639&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT and whether it seems an okay machine for me. I use my laptop as my TV, and also like to have at least 2 other tabs or pages open at the same time. I am not a gamer so to speak, but do like to play things like Farmville!! I was keen as this laptop comes wth Microsoft Starter which would, I think, be fine for my needs.

    Many thanks

Microsoft Starter refers to the Office Package. The OS is Windows 7 Premium.

ACERs tend to have good specifications at the price points, though I don't have any experience of these machines and so am reluctant to wholeheartedly recommend them.
The specifications though are more than enough for your needs.
Rather too similar to their cheaper eMachines 640 for my liking. :)

Thanks for the reply:) Yes, I knew that it ran Windows 7, but what I meant was I can get away without having to buy Office as I only really use Word. I don't think I said that properly, my mistake.

Just had a quick look at the emachines one, but its only 2GB and I wanted 3 really, but again thanks for suggesting it.

I wasn't suggesting the eMachines. I was pointing out that the machine that you are buying is rather too close to their budget range(actually it's the same, just differing RAM and Office Starter).

If anybody is looking for a cheap laptop which is not refurbished, Comet are selling a Lenovo for £299 including delivery or reserve and collect. It's a dual core, 2GB memory, 250GB hard drive running Windows 7 Home Premium.

    http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/680230/LENOVO-G550-NTDXAUK

Additionally if you order before this Tuesday (19th) using discount code 5200 will further reduce the price by 5% making it £284.05.

Whilst not wishing to draw swords with anyone I think a bit of realism is needed on this thread. For less than £350 you are not going to get a cutting edge laptop which is a games machine.
In fact no laptop is going to be particularly good for games as they will lack fundamentals like a quality graphics card. For most people who need / want a laptop to run a word processor / spreadsheet / internet surfing much of what is on offer will suffice and little difference will be seen between machines.
If you are wanting to run photoshop, dreamweaver and call of duty all at the same time you are looking in the wrong thread. Also much of the quality of your internet surfing expereince will be determined by the quality of your broadband connection I could have the world's best laptop, but as my connection is poor I wouldnt notice a particular improvement.

I haven't seen too many requests for the kind of machine that you have described. Anything in particular that prompted you to write this?
