What features and spec would persuade anyone to another machine over the Aldi? What is the current recommended best buy at around this price?

For those wanting a small light laptop (13.3"), 1.6kg, with semi decent dual core CPU, 4gb ddr3, windows 7 64bit, a radeon 4330 for a bit of odd light gaming, and 8 hour battery life you can't go far wrong with this imo

As long as you're happy with no internal optical drive - which I am -

I know these are outside the £350 range but can anyone recommend which i should choose?
Well, it isn't for me but my mum in law who is looking for a good laptop for word processing, internet etc and has a budget of £500.
She had an Acer Aspire One and hated it so it has to be a laptop this time with at least a 15" screen.
Wireless is essential and an integrated webcam would be handy.
I thought it best to go for as much RAM as possible and a good processor (not celeron!) so it doesn't slow down for a few years but the hard drive doesn't have to be huge but no less than 120gb

I find http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php useful for comparing processors. Looking at the scores for the 3 CPUs you've listed:

Acer 1966
HP 1280
Toshiba 1080

All other factors being equal I know which one I would choose.
