So I have £400
Looking at the dell website, new inspiron 15 £349
I know that i want a built in webcam, but thats about it. For some reason i have got it into my head that I want a Dell. Maybe i got that from my ex boyfriend he loved dell laptops. I don't really know whats good in a laptop, he used to sort it all out for me!
If you can help thankyou, and opinions on the dell one. I have also been looking at the one that has a little more memory for £379 as well.£11,000 in 2011 = £71.740 -
Hi
My mother is wanting to buy a laptop as a xmas present. Only needs to be fairly basic will primarily be used for general internet browsing (not watching tv, videos etc).
Morrisons have an acer e525 for £269 (with laptop case & mouse). Sorry I don't have the technical specs detail as she didn't take them down, not sure if the model number only is enough for anyone to comment on?
Would that seem like a good deal and price?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

It's an eMachines e525. Would really need the full model number in order to be able to evaluate.
On first glance it would be a no.
If it has Windows 7 installed together with 2GB RAM, then it's a big maybe. If it has Vista and 1GB RAM, then it's a definite no.
Does it have a built in webcam and microphone?
This is why we need the full model number.0 -

Thanks, thats useful - I'll try to find out - I did think you would need to know more info to advise.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I've always used Acer laptops. They've always been reliable, great screen quality and colour, keyboard is nice for a laptop and it's always fairly cheap. The only downsides are the poor speakers and low build quality on the hinges.0

This is a likely scenario0 -
Apparently its an E525 '901' model. Has windows 7 but only 1gb ram. No webcam (although in this instance one would not be used by the person it is for.) Its for a complete novice computer user.
Obviously she would like a cheap deal but also would like a fairly easy purchase as well (which buying from the supermarket would be).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

and then jump a couple of notches downwards... eMachines are now are the budget ACER brand.0 -
not sure about the general obsession with webcams - have never used one for anything useful in years of computing - easy to buy a separate webcam for under a tenner so wouldn't be off by a lack of one.
Think that having less than 2 mb ram is fam more relevant to the running of the machine0
