By the way, out of curiosity, how did you get that number? It's not on the Barclays website.
If you go to the Barclays Bank Account page it is on the right-hand side

Ok. That number wasn't on the Cash Card Account (CCA) page, as you can see, so that's why I was asking about this out of curiosity. I think they should put that number on the CCA page, incase someone wants to chase up the application, etc...
  • The help is much appreciated lads, thanks.

I've just rang them instead of going into the branch (sutton is right, the person at the branch said it would go through internal mail to the correct department and that I wouldn't have to send off originals of my documents as they had been seen by her and certified true) and they've told me that they are currently processing applications made on or before the 26th of February, and I'm certain I made my application before that so he said it may still be in the queue to be processed and I should call back by the middle of next week to see if it's on the system yet.

Surprisingly, he also mentioned that I could alternatively go into a branch and have them open an account for me right in the branch itself, as it is possible and would be open much quicker, and having the account open would cancel out the postal application that I made provided it was open and active before they processed the postal application.

Anyone reckon I should give it a go? Anyone have any experience opening the Cash Account that way?

Looks like they have a backlog of Cash Card Account (CCA) applications.

If you urgently need the account, then yes, open it in the branch itself. You will recieve the card, PIN, and welcome pack within 5 working days. If it's not urgent, you could wait until next week and call them. Up to you really. Depends how patient you are. :p

Actually, the CCA applications are now opened in branch itself now. This has been happening for a few months now, and most people have been doing it this way. It used to be opened by post a long time ago.

    Haha, apparently a huge backlog!

I do need it rather quickly, and the only reason I did it via post is because I was advised in branch that it was the only possible way to open a CCA. I guess I will pop in there sometime tomorrow and have a go at opening one in the branch itself. I was under the impression that this wasn't possible which is why I was surprised when the lad on the phone suggested it, but thanks for clarifying it :D

If it's any help I went into a branch today and opened a Cash Card account (with Visa Connect Debit card) immediately - the whole process took about 15 minutes and I had my account details by the end of it.

So they can do it in the branch straight away if you need it quickly!

They can but it seems most branches don't want to - it is best to try and go to a quiet branch where they have nothing better to do so will open it for you

Depends on how strict the PB's manager is, too. All Personal Bankers are still signed to the 2008 Sales Standards, which says that if someone requests a Cash Card account up front, they MUST be given the leaflet and sent away.

This couple with the fact that it's the same paperwork load as opening a regular account only without the same incentive... tends to put people off a bit.

I've already posted on the Basic Bank Account thread, but this thread seems most appropriate. I used to bank with Barclay's from the mid 1990's up until 2004, everything went wrong and I had to go bankrupt.

Barclay's was one of my creditor's, have been discharged about 5 years, now if I applied for the basic cash account, would they first check their 'internal records' first?

Do they still do a FULL credit check on this account?

    Any help welcome.

No, they don't do a full credit check. Only voters roll and fraud check. It's not a credit scored product.
