FP's haven't been working for me all week - even if i try £1

Tried it a couple of times and it kept saying 'unfortunately they cannot send it immediately'

eventually HBOS phoned me asking why I kept abandoning transfers midway and to confirm it was actually me logging in...

I guess the criteria depends on how the stars are aligned...

Had a terrible time in branch today

Wanted to move some money from an old saver account into a new one - anyway considering how much I wanted to move there would be hardly anything left in it so thought might aswell take it all out - they said if I then wanted to close it they would have to go through security and then said even if I didn't want to close it they would still have to go through it as I was emptying it out luckily I had taken my passport with me - asked them to put the remainder into my current account.

Then I asked them to move a large amount to one of my current accounts in another bank - I asked them to do it via faster payments - the lady said you can't send that much by faster payments then I said to split it up into smaller transactions - then she said they don't do faster payments

Then I asked them to send it via BACS - they said I would be charged, I pointed out that BACS was free and CHAPS was what incurs a charge, then they claimed BACS and CHAPS were the same thing. Then said they couldn't do it at the counter and to go the helpdesk.

Went there and she said BACS and CHAPS were different - asked her to send it via BACS and she said I would have to send it in 3 transactions over 3 days.....

Then she recommended getting a bank draft in my own name which she said was free - back to the counter then....

The lady there said I would be charged for a draft, I said that the helpdesk lady said it was free then she said she would try it and see, then said it was free - the cashier next to her said theres a charge!! and started looking at my card until eventually the cashier next to him said it is free in your own name and then they settled down

Eventually got the draft from them and went to the other bank at 4.58pm and deposited it in time

You have to smile don't you. Mediocrity in action ...... and the managers get bonuses for looking after it all.

Not Sheffield (High St) ... perchance? Rings bells.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    no it was not

draft amount is showing now in my hsbc account now to just wait for it to clear properly and show in available balance
  • Tried to do a transfer today, wouldn't work for £400, or £200, or £100 or £50. Still tells me it will send tomorrow and will take 3 working days... :(
"A bank* is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain."

(*Unless it's Santander. The branch says they sent you an umbrella 3 times already and don't understand why you don't have it yet and want it back right now!!!)

it's generally been ok for me until now, tonight it wont even let me do £1!!!!!

damn you faster payments................i think it might be because i aborted a £500 transfer to try £501........now it wont let me do any amount!!!
  • I am having very similar problems, I have been having a terrible time with these faster payments. After a successful £100 on Monday I managed 2 x £500 on Tuesday, then cut me off. Wednesday I tried for another £500....useless. Eventually it let me send £400 then cut me off. Would not even send £1 anywhere. I rang them and was told it was not their fault but the receiving bank....the queue to pay in was too long!

Yesterday I tried again, £500, £400......nothing, so I gave up. About 30 minutes later I got a call from them checking if it was me trying to do the transfers and offering to put through £400 for me, to which I agreed.

But it never happened. So I rang the on line help desk (as they had said I should) and they claimed to talk to on line banking then said give it 2 hours and ring them if it still had not gone through.

It didn't go through so I rang them and got all the usual excuses....long queue...receiving bank....very busy at end of month, but still no transfer. Tried it again several times, even at 4am, still nothing. Tried to 3 different banks.

Today I tried again, still nothing. Then I asked my daughter to try from her account (also Halifax) and 3 x £500 went through immediately, while still nothing from mine.

The whole set up seems totally unexplicable and random, and mainly seems to fail, so what is the point of it?

As an aside.....daughter is student so usually does her banking from her own PC at Uni. Today, from home,on our PC, she set up a new transfer (of £2600) to her ISA with another bank, with the payment to go on Monday. She got that screen that asked her to request a call-back and had to enter a number shown on the screen. Then she sent my 3 x £500 for me and I transferred the £1500 to her account. This morning she had also received her Icesave ISA money and Savings money and moved that from her Halifax Student account to her Websaver.

A couple of hours later, after she had left, Halifax rang here and wanted to speak to her. Her Dad rang her mobile and she called them. She then got "the Spanish Inquisition" on why she was doing stuff via a different ISP etc etc, and was told in future, if she moved "large amounts of money" they would ring her to check it was really her!

Are they not just going a little OTT here?!

Security is fine, but they seem to be trying to put obstacles in the way of people moving money around/out.

Been on the sidelines watching this 'drama' unfolding, amazed at how long it's taken (still taking) Halifax to set up properly and the problems you've all had. I do have a Halifax account (Websaver) but luckily it's 'rainy day' money and not one I need to make payments from -- I'd have gone nuts with what you've had to put up with. NatWest did Faster Payments from the off, no phase-in and no limits (or not as far as I could tell, except for the £10k upper limit), and it all worked beautifully and still does, so I count myself very fortunate to have escaped this fiasco... but the trade-off is that's a traditional current account with no interest worth mentioning.
