If I were to write down the details of all the refused payments we have had just recently, I would need several sheets of paper!

I have complained in our branch, and over the phone, but it has not got any better.

    Dear Milarky;
Some banks will not process payment on weekends. So if it is sent on weekend it might arrives on the following working day.

My experience sofar transfer money from Halifax to other UK banks it arrives on the same day. They are good and reliable.

There is today's date (highlighted in yellow) in the drop down calendar now - implying (since Halifax's own information says this) that faster payments (out) are now enabled. However when I set up a payment to First Direct I was advised it go tomorrow instead via the 'normal bill payment' service.

Are they about to throw the big switch then and make it all go - or is this a lucky dip where some accounts get a pass and others don't I wonder?

Hi, time is not an issue on this one - if it can be done it will be sent and received within 2 hrs. The problem is that although HBOS is on the faster pmt systems it requires the recipient bank, utility co. etc to also be on it - at the moment not everyone is and so the error message will come up for it to be sent as your usual 'Standing Order'. More and more places are subscribing to the FP service though so in time you might find that ones that cant be done now will be avail in time to come!

    Hope this helps - :)

These are the sort of "excuses" I get from Halifax every time I complain, and for the payments I am trying to make they are just rubbish.

There is a site where you can check if the receiving sort code can accept FPs, I have checked all mine and I KNOW they can.

    Most were to Lloyds!

There is an interesting update about Halifax Faster Payments written by BobHellen on Motley Fool

So it seems that this could be a good time to contact Halifax regarding Faster Payments problems

We could all complain I suppose but I am thinking this may all go away rather suddenly if Halifax are integrated into the existing Lloyds payments scheme (maybe I'm being naive to assume that will happen but it seems more likely that Lloyds would just 'give up' on trying to get the Halifax implementation to work as well as its own - and switch customers en masse)

I believe that this is the case.

I'm not 100% sure whether this month's online banking switch will change anything (I'm sure I've read somewhere that things will improve, but as far as I'm aware it's just the interface that's changing).

Otherwise, either March or July are likely dates for it all to fall into place.

Who's bothered? Not me, anymore! Numerous complaints have only brought out numerous excuses, each time a new one, and all of them about problems with someone else other than Halifax! According to them, there is nothing wrong with their system! Well they can keep their system... I am moving to another bank. I have had about enough in two weeks...

To think that they are now blaming security, you'd wonder if they are the only secure bank in this whole world? As if the other banks, who have implemented the full FPS standards, with the current limit of £100k, don't understand banking security?

Last week on Wednesday morning, I successfully made two Faster Payments to the same destination. I received online+email confirmation for both FPs. One arrived within two hours itself. The other one arrived on Friday!?!

Thursday afternoon, I was trying to make an FP, but the earliest date Halifax could make that transaction was Monday!?! So I wasted a whole week waiting for Halifax to access my money. I am frankly worried that in a genuine emergency, I can't depend on them.

The call centre always reminds me that I can pay them £25, if I wanted a quicker transaction!!!

If Halifax senior management are aware of this issue, and they have done nothing for the past two-and-half years, they are guilty of gross negligence in their duties! The whole lot should be fired... It is criminal to be selling anything when you are aware that it doesn't work as promised! They are advertising FPS, knowing they can't deliver FPS standards. I hope the regulators (and shareholders???) cotton on this shady practice!

You know the worst thing about this: We (the public) actually own this lot.

  • I just had an interesting conversation with an agent at Halifax. I asked him what their limit on faster payments was since I had had trouble getting them to work. He told me that their limit varies from day to day 'as a fraud prevention measure'. Personally I think that this makes the service next to unusable and I told him so! I'm fed up with so called fraud prevention measures which simply make it hard for customers to do their legitimate business. If Halifax won't allow the faster payment then they will send it via BACS (takes three days) but typically they will wait one to two days before sending the payment (other banks will send it the same day) so the total wait is often five days. The only other option is to send a number of incrementally smaller payments until you hit the limit, then send the rest via BACS. WHAT A FAFF . I feel a change of bank coming on.
  • I'm having the exact same problems with their faster payments service. I'm begining to think its deliberate tactic to prevent people abusing the £5/month Reward account by transfering in £1000 and then then instantly moving it back out.

I make Faster Payments daily from Halifax. Can I just refer you to this recent post - which still describes the situation as I currently find it.

£2500 per account per day has been acheived but no higher figure. Best advise is to intentionally split payments into amounts known to work. A pain, but one soon gets used to this. If is says it will go via FP it will go via FP [all IME, of course]

If the pattern observed changes in future I will post advising I what I have discovered
