Halifax faster payments - nearly there?

Update: I went to my local branch where I got them to do the FP with no problem.
By the time I got back home the payment was already showing in the receiving account.
Seems it can be done in branch but not at home online.

Anyone interested can read about the FP saga here.

I've logged in under my "alias screen name" as I have the misfortune to work for HBOS and would hate to give the Lloyds hatchet people any ammunition to get shot of another "HBOS muppet" as one of their senior team kindly refers to us.

The ever changing FPS limits is absolutely nothing to do with security - this is an attempt to try and make the customer think it is above board.
I (along with many others) make payments on the day we get paid to other banks as most of us decline to operate an account with this mob but are forced to have salaries paid there. It would be safe to say I never have the same experience twice - sometimes I get lucky and can make a payment for £500 or so on other occasions I cannot make any - I've even had a payment for £3 sent by BACS - that is how pathetic the whole thing is.

I now try for the whole amount and then , using the back button when it says it is being sent by BACS, I reduce the amount and play around until I can send something. Out of principle I refuse to send by BACS. And to anyone who is about to say well you must still be within your daily limit that is also cr*p - I have well exceeded it on many occasions.

Today I made a total of 9 faster payments - all to transfer £700 to RBS (a normal bank).

It's time this practice was exposed by Martin, but then maybe it's not glamorous enough to be bothered with.

i have finally decided that my adventure with halifax and its idiosyncracies are just not worth the time and/or aggro. went to a lloyds branch, got current account created within minutes, moved all my money out of halifax. successfully tried £10k fps on lloyds and money arrived at destination within minutes. very impressed with lloyds, and their cust service. wonder why i never used them before? must've been their shoddy reputation.

You do know Halifax are migrating to Lloyds TSB's system this summer? So in theory they will offer exactly the same FPS as LTSB.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

in theory, halifax is supposed to work very differently than it does in practice. trust is a small word, and confidence a much larger one. hope doesn't figure anywhere, unless you play the lottery.

Maybe a year or so ago when FPS was newly introduced I would have agreed, but I've come to believe this is the way HBOS are happy for their FPS to operate. It seems an over-eager security system coupled with shaky implementation causes us all frustration and confusion (in trying to figure out the "rules" HBOS FPS follows). I've not been overly enthusiastic about HBOS being swallowed up by Lloyds TSB, but I would hope improved Faster Payments is one of the benefits of this shotgun wedding.

  • Why is it I have no trouble transferring say £1k from my Halifax Reward :rotfl: by FPS to my A&L Premier Current, always goes same day but oh, transferring the other way takes 3 days :(. Don't A&L operate FPS anymore or am I doing something wrong?

Because Halifax has a FP limit of £2500, whereas Santander/A&L has a limit of £300.

A&L's limit prior to the Santander take-over was £250, so a £1k payment from them would never have gone via FP.
  • I have attempted 3 FP's today, each of £2500:

    Lloyds Successful

Halifax (old internet banking Platform) FP not available

Halifax (wifes account, on new "Lloyds" internet banking platform)
    FP also not available

Its obviously a conscious Halifax restrictive policy rather than some
quirk or function of the internet banking platform

    :(
  • A quick update:

Halifax (old internet banking Platform) FP still not available at 21:10 :(

Halifax (wifes account, on new "Lloyds" internet banking platform)
FP now available and transfer of £2500 made :)
