Are there different types of wireless Routers ?

im just wondering if the cables are in the right ports. you may be accidently bypassing the router - the modem itself should attach to the router in a seperate port to the side of the "switch" ports. if it is a router with 4 port switch then these ports will be grouped closely together in a line . and yes that is the same design as mine -Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

son writing this
yes there is a port on its own to the left of the four other ports i have the ethernet going from the modem to the port on its own in the router then the other cable going from port1 in the router to the pc.0 -
OK so on the front of your router hopefully there should be 7 lights
the first should be for power - then wireless - 4 lights grouped for each port - then the ethernet status.
if you have one PC in port 1 then the lights should be on in this order
on - - on - - on/off/off/off << (any one of these 4 may be on)- - on.

we have no lights on at port 1,2,3 or 4 or the ethernet because its not plugged in at all to anything. we have a cable going straight from the modem to the pc as we were not able to even get on the desk top if we plugged in the wireless
son is saying we need to try tomorrow ( he is going to bed now, for college in morn ) to get the router running again0 -
OK may need to try a full reset - if the router is ON hold down the button which is on the back of the unit (there should only be one its about 2 mm across) you need to hold it down for about 30 seconds at least.
Once the router has reset to factory turn it off and plug the cables back in - modem and PC - dont worry about wireless yet - just go for cable connectionsDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
